Rust on SFC welds... suggestions?

I noticed today that, probably because of the horrendous winter this year, the welds holding the SFCs I got installed not too long ago are rusting. It's probably just surface rust at this point (I hope... the car saw a LOT of salt this year). I want to know what my options are to get rid of this and prevent it from happening again, both DIY and where I could bring it to have someone else do it. Please help!

I would sand off the rust and paint over the bare metal with POR 15.

A good undercoating would do good things for you. I am also always amazed at how effective drain oil is at stopping the progression of rust.

OK, I did a little researching on POR-15, and it looks like I can apply this stuff right over the rust? I assume it would be better to sand it anyway, but I was just wondering if that's true. Has anyone had problems without the topcoat on it? The welds would be occassionally exposed to UV reflected off the ground, since it's not completely under the car. Also, is this stuff sprayable?

Thanks for the help

Go with the POR (Paint Over Rust). As I recall, it is sprayable. I used no topcoat, and after a couple of years, there are no adverse effects.

Use a wire brush to get rid of what rust you can and just follow the instructions. I LOVE the stuff. It'll never rust after you put that stuff on. Yes, it's sprayable.

Get all the rust off there, and then put some spray paint on there and it should be fine

Don't mean to ruin your idea of what you might think is safe on your car at the moment, but when I had the SFCs welded on, they used black spraypaint over the welds. that paint is long gone witha healthy coat of rust after only a few months.
