K-member for third generation F-body

Thought you guys would be interested in looking at this website. I think it would make the engine bay look way lot better and you can add the rack and pinion in there. You'll get 140 lbs lighter up front shouldn't be hard to pull the wheels!

Hehe... looks all nice, shiny and hi-tech

Not like my stock, boring-looking, paintless and oil soaked POS, lol

that looks a little better than the mustang one

the coil over mount is interesting. does that k member affect the way the motor mounts? also, how would the coilover setup and reack and pinnion fair for road racing (bump steer)?

thanks

Tubular K-members are nice. Less wieght, cleaner looking, stronger. Just a lot of work, and expensive by the time you get it all, and that wasn't even a power rack...

@ZZKKER the link says it is a stang w\ chevy motor conversion, so in other words, it is for a stang.

Thats a good excuse to get rid of my old rusty K-member on my 82.

How much do you think it would cost to install one of those?

i love my chromoly k member, a arms, and coilover setup however it has been a very long and costly process of figuring out what works decent. my next adventure is to fit the 4thgen rack setup when i can find one for a decent price.

I don't see anything wrong with using "Stang" parts If it helps me to beat them that is all I care about. Until someone makes a better after market K-member that is not by F*rd then I guess We'll have to settle with what we got.

Did you mis type something? because your not gonna shave 140lbs by doing a k member and rack and pinion. From what I know (and been told by some companies) with putting a tubular k member, coil over set up, etc. to shave weight only takes off about 50-60lbs O_o

Not sure what you mean here. Nothing is made by ford here, except for the pinto rack, which is an optional component, you can keep your stock steering system if you want.

@ZZKKER, the reason the pinto rack is popular is because it is so tiny (read LIGHT). Thats all ya need for steering around staging lanes

Yea, it would, but it aint gonna happen Thats something that should have been done to the K-Member before it was made (I didnt request that, so it wasnt added). I suppose the moutning brackets could still be added, but that'd be a real pain.

Sorry guys for the misunderstanding on stangs part, thought you guys would look and click on the 82-92 camaro front end link.

REVLIMIT- I did say what the website said 120 lbs off the weight it says on there. I said 140 lbs which I made a mistake but close enough. I think it's right since the stock k-member weights close to 70 lbs plus the a-arm around 20 lbs each. Don't forget the steering gearbox would be around 20 too and all those steering parts like centerlink, pitman arm, idler arm, and tie rods weight something around there. Also the factory front springs would be around 10 lbs each so that pretty much sum up around there.

ZZKKER- You can still use the same motor mount location as factory you don't need to do any fabrication. It's all bolts on no welding required. Those pinto will save you some motor drag by not using the power steering pump. It's manuel steering pinto which won't be as bad at power steering does. For everything to get it done with the pinto will cost us 1,900 which is expensive for most of the guys. Some guys would pay for that to get some weight off for racing to get quicker ET time.

The stock K-Mermber weighs in at 45 lbs, and the A-Arms are 14 lbs each. My Road Tech K-Member and A-Arms combined weighed in at 49 lbs. Granted, mine is setup for the stock suspension (not coilovers, which would probably save me about 10-20 lbs + the weight of the springs), but the extra clearance is worth it alone, not to mention the bling

When I had talked to PARacing, they said the coilover/a-arms/k-member kit saved a little over 75lbs. When added with rack and pinion it'll save more.

I guess 120lb might be possible. I could always weight Kandid91z old AM A-arms and see how much they weigh. If anyone was curious.

It doesn't really matter how much weight it takes off of your car a little over 50 lbs is good enough. Don't forget how much more clearance you get around the motor and underneath it would be easier to access tight spots. Also it's going to look sweet if somebody could post some third generation camaro or firebird with this kind of kits, it's going to look awesome for sure! I just want to get some load off the weight since mine weights at 3,104 so I'm aiming for 3,000 or less with full roll cage and subframe connectors and southside traction bar which weights pretty much around 200 all together or less who knows! I'm not saying I know for a fact that it weights that much it's just my guess. So now I'm starting to save up some money and get that kit!

Oh no, it'll be awhile before I put them on. I haven't bought the K-member yet. I'm about to put the rearend in, then begin working on the transmission, then when I start to work on the engine, I'll do the a-arms, coilover, and k-member.

It'll be a good ways down the road.

how is it that every k-member post we have the same discusions, i am supprised we haven't had the stock vs coil over agument in this thread yet

the unit looks nice, but it isn't anything new, we have been talking about PA, Roadtech, ect and their k-mebers for a long time. this is just one more to through into the mix.

i suppose it's all about preference as most of them are near identical in purpose and design.
