Need info on Swapping 89 rear disc brakes to 87 rear end
Well guys, my posi went out and I have had a mint 9 bolt rear from 87 with disc that I wanna throw in place. But I want to keep my 89 iroc rear disc brakes. I need to know what is involved in the swap. In the end I wanna have the 87 rear with 3.27 in place with my 89 PBR brakes on the 87 rearend. I have heard that the swap requires some fabbing and I would like to know so I can get this project underway. Thanks fellas

Both rears are 9 bolts right? You're all set! It will all swap over. Just pull the axles, switch the backing plates over from rear to rear, and swap all the brake stuff over. Easy as that.

Awesome, thanks man. Can you give me an estimate on how long it would take to do this job? Also where can I get a speedo gear to correct the gear change from 2.77 to 3.27
Thanks

I'd give you 4 hours if you're fairly inclined and have the basic tools.

i am not too familiar with posis, and what not. do the axles simply unbolt by the backing plates? Or is it more complicated IE taking off the rear end cover and the pinion to get to the key inside? I haven't dealt with rear ends much, I am hoping its not the later. Thanks fellas
