welding in my subframe connectors
welding in my subframe connectors
I am looking for advice on welding in my subframe connectors,
They are the Jegs bolt in type.
Will I have any issues using my MIG welder? I mean will it harm any of the electronics? ECM, Cruise module, ect?
I assume all I have to do is disconnect the battery?
Any other advice will be appreciated.
thanks,
mike

i've welded on a lot of differant things with eletronics and batterys and never unhooked anything and never had a problem, but that doesn't mean you won't or can't. unhook the battery and be a little safer maybe.

I always place the ground clamp as close as possible to and on the piece I am welding. This keeps the current flow confined to that area. With that I haven't had any problems. If concerned teh ECM unplugs easily.
An example of doing it incorrectly would be to place the ground clamp on the exhaust as the subframes are welded in.

Make sure you pull up the carpet. This includes removing the insulation.... I used a putty knife to scrap it off the floor. I got away with just sliding 2x4s under the carpet and insulation (after I pulled up all the insulation stuck to the floor) so it kept them off the floor... The sheet metal will get cherry hot for migging them in.
Unhook the battery and everything should be fine.
