What sizes will fit on a stock 16in Rim

I have a 91 RS with the suspension package, they are the same wheels as on the z-28's. I was wondering how wide of a tire could I go on these rims, right now I have 235/55/R16's. Would a 255 fit? What would be the losses/gains to this, what about the sidewall height, losses/gains to higher or lower, what size range will fit, does anyone know?

What size are your rims, do you have them on the stock ones?

Isn't that a bit too big on that rim?? Do you have any pics of it? My thought is that the sidewall bulges a LOT...and the sidewall flex would hinder cornering...

I finally found it by searching, I think 255 is the biggest I should go with the stock rims.
Thanks.

I just installed 255-50-16s on my stock rims and they fit perfectly. 305 is NOT a recommended tire size for an 8" rim.

Wheel manufacturers and distributors can tell you which tires will safely fit on what wheels. The tires come with a specification of how wide a wheel is necessary to be fitted. You can fit 275/50/16's safely with most tires out there on a 16x8. 305 is too large for an 8" rim. Going to large hurts performance and causes rolling of the sidewall.

You use the 255 or the 305? I was thinking I will probably look for a set of good 255 tires.
