rear breaks

there is a problem with the brakes on a car i thought about buying and i came here for help. when we took it for a test drive the break light on the dash was on and when i tried to stop the pedal goes almost to the floor. when we got it back to the driveway the owner was pressing the breaks and it sounded like there was air coming out near the rear breaks. the fluid was filled. the car was a 84' z28 with rear drum breaks. any ideas with what might be wrong?

Leaking rear wheel cylinder. Look for fluid back there on the inside of the wheel. $15 part and about an hour to fix, but check the rest of the system out too.

Welcome!

You should replace the other wheen cylinder as well, it will go shortly after. I had the problem with my old malibu fixed one side 1 month later the other side popped, also on my 81 gmc front caliper locked up fixed the 1 side 2 months later the other locked. Few extra bucks and a bit more time to save hassles down the road.

could also be breaks in the rubber line or holes rusted in the hard lines
