Hydro boost from trucks?
I just learned that some GM trucks came with hydro-boost.I wonder if this would work on our cars.Im more concerned on making the brake booster not dependent on vacuum without spending as much as a vacuumm pump

yes they did, I have a hydraboost setup on my 78 pickup. I replaced the vaccuum booster with it and I would never use another vaccuum booster again. My truck has alot more brake pedal feel and it pretty much stops on a dime. Depending on where you are from they might be a bit pricy and hard to find. also you'll need a new power steering pump with 2 return lines. the lines run like this:
pressure out of pump to brake booster
return from brake booster to pump
pressure from booster to steering box
return from steering box to pump
It's a very simple setup but be careful not to lose your power steering belt as you will also lose your brakes. Trust me on that one

I think most GM Diesels have it also. Turbo Buicks also have it. I kinda think it sucks, so do most Buick guys. They swap theirs out for vacuum boosters, but it may good solution if you cam won't make vaccuum. The only thing they say positive about them is they hold more boost on the starting line. Place a want ad on www.turbobuick.com I bet you can get one relatively cheap.
You will eventually lose the power assist if the belt comes off, but there is an accumulator that stores pressure. You should be able to make 4-5 stops before the assist is gone.

the boosters in buicks are electric. That would be the best way to go. But it's extreemly difficult to find parts for them and most parts stores don't have replacement parts for them. No one makes them.
