STB's, Why List As TBI And Not Carbed?

As many of you may have received, I got the new chevy hi performance, and saw the article with the 3'rd gen camaro that they put the edelbrock strut tower brace on. Well it looks to be a TBI engine due to it has a 14x3 air cleaner on it, and on jegs they only list 86-92 TBI and 85-92 TPI, and states nothing about carbed engines. Since I have an open element air cleaner, I can still use the same strut tower brace as well right? Anyone know of any problems I may encounter, or gains I can hope to see? Thanks.

you can go for the TBI strut tower base. Although you would have to check for interference between the higher intake and the STB. but most people run the TBI one on their carb'd motors.

The Edelbrock TBI STB wont fit carbed cars with A/C. The brace will hit the brackets and compressor. I tried. If you dont have A/C or switched to the single belt serpetine system like the TBIs have, then the STB will fit fine.

Sweet, that was just what I wanted to hear. Good thing I just got rid of all my ac stuff!! Anyone have some good testimonials about the Strut tower braces, or have any experience using the edelbrock one??

THe Edelbrock STB combined with the wonderbar really made a big difference in the feel of my steering. Much more precice and less wandering. Definately take your time installing it. Mine just barely hits my hood, but I could have prevented it by placing it a little better. I got it for X-mas last year and I wanted to put it on bad! Attention to detail is a little rough with a 15* wind chill!

Wildman, thanks that's exactly what i'm looking to do. Out of curiosity what wonderbar did you get? I was lookin at the TDS Vs. the Spohn, but I think i'm leaning towards the TDS one. I have the RA II hood, so hopefully i'll be able to get it to fit ok under that.

Edit: You wouldn't have any pics of it would you?

Thats the STB I have. Its a very NICE part!! I believe its the only 3rd gen STB which doesn't require drilling into the strut towers.

Stingraye, I got the BMR wonderbar. Lon didn't have his available yet or I would have gotten his. The BMR piece is good quality bordering on overkill. I noticed after I posted that you had the Ram Air hood so you may be o.k. I have the standard 87-92 Formula hood. It just barely hits the inner hood bracing. It just left marks on each side of the STB ( the hood closes fine ).

I have pics but I haven't developed them yet. I'll see if I can get them developed and scanned in the next day or so.

I don't think he makes the STB anymore, but it came in a 2 and 4 pt version and would clear a HO dual snorkel aircleaner. I got the 2 pt.

Old pic.
