What rims/tires are you guys using to drag?

I need a set of rear tires specifically for dragging, so they wont be street/strip combo, just strip.

I need to know specifically the rim and tire specs, how well it fits, and how well it sticks.

Thanks!

Just thought I might mention, I'd like to use my extra set of 92Z rims. I believe they are 16", but not sure how wide they are, I bet you guys know.

Is there a good drag tire that fits that rim and the car well?

I've done a little research, but I'm getting more and more confused. People talking about backspacing, using 10" tread tires on 8" rims, but this width doesnt work with this height, people disagree, yada yada.

I'd just like to hear what specifically people are using that works and if there's something that works with those rims. Thanks a lot!

stock 92 z28 rims would be 16 inches by 8 inches wide.

nitto makes great drag tires and u can go to and from the track with them on.

Is there a specific line you can vouch for? What specs? Thanks.

You could go with MT ET-Street 26X10.5X16 or 26X11.5X16 on those 16X8 rims.

How well do they grip? Do they need tubes?

Also, why ET Streets vs ET Drags?

I'm running 16" salad shooters (fourthgen 16x8" wheels) with Nitto 555R drag radials for the track. They hook great, and can be run on the street (this was my original intention, but now they're track only). I've ripped off 2.09 60's when I was running 15.5's. Hopefully I'll hit sub 2.0's with the current combo no problem. The BFG Drag Radials are actually stickier than the Nitto's, so I'd recommend getting them. But I really like my Nitto's.

The ET-Streets have a DOT rating so you can use them on the street where the ET-Drags are strictly slicks for the tracks. They are both the same compound a far as I know.

I couldnt find a drag set that fit a 16" rim, though. Only the Streets would. Know somewhere else to look?

after I seen a guy at the track pull off 1.7 60's with BFG DR, mounted on 18" rims, and heard of very good things about BFG's from other people, i have decided to run 16" BFG DR next season....and throw out my junk Hoosier slicks

sounds like some good suspension work to me......a radial tire will never out grip a soft compound bias ply racing slick in good condition.

no offense but swithcing from a slick to a radial is like wanting to go faster and trading in your lamborghini for a dodge minivan

in good condition thats the key right there, i got the slicks for free, i got my runs in this season with them, and now they are actually junk....

he does have a nice suspension setup, but the tires are still a part of the 1.7 60'

You should also look at what your going to be doing at the track. Are you racing or just racing for fun at TT's If your going to be running a street class, check the tracks rules for the class. Our street class used to require DOT approved tires so we all ran Hoosier Quick Time Pro-I used to run 27x11.5x15 on my 10" rims. Now they changed the rule for next season to a "radial" tire so BFG's would be my choice. But anytime you can go full slick over radial design...jump all over it. There's a reason all the consistently fast consistently deadly bracket cars run slicks over a radial design, they hook and are a little more forgiving if chasis tuning is not spot on.

This is just for fun and T/T when I get around to it, so no restrictions.

I think I'm going to end up buying a set that will fit my extra 16x8 Z28 rims., for cost reasons.

I have Hoosier 28 x 10.00-16 drag slicks mounted on 92 Z28 wheels and it will fit on a stock car. The last four runs had a 60ft times of 1.60, 1.60, 1.60 and 1.59 The 1.60s had dead hook with a 3,600 rpm launch and on the 1.59 I had about 20 feet of tire spin with a 4,025 rpm launch on the data log.

Link to Hoosier tires http://www.hoosiertire.com/Drtire.htm

Click on spec and look for tire 18153

Sweet!

Certainly will look into those now; how many runs can you get out of them?

Oh, and do they require tubes or anything?

This question applies to other people's suggestions as well. Thanks!

Easy low 1.6's on stock rims with BFG 255 Drag Radials. They will easily hold high 1.5's. Auto, 3600 stall.

No ads in the forums, dude.

Especially when you hijack my thread to sell them. It'd be a different story if they were drag slicks, but they're totally irrelevant.

Me too. 18" slicks wouldn't give you much sidewall wrinkle.
