NEED to redo whole brake sys. need advice please...
ok heres the deal.
87 RS camaro
2.8L v6
front disc
rear drum
When i first got the car the brakes were ****ty.. after awhile got worse and worse..
first cpl months the left caliper i think is going..was pulling me to the right HARD when i braked.. so im thinkin replace lines, and calipers..maybe fix that prob.
then after more months.. brakes were grindin n soundin bad leavin brake dust all over left side of car..not right..
im thinkin... new lines, calipers, pads, now rotors cuz there grinded to hell..
also rear brakes need attention.
after a while the brake light was comin on
now and then
now when i turn the car on.. put foot on brake pedal..the pedal goes alllllll the way down...no pressure at all...
if i want to move the car, i can put the brake alll the way to the floor and it will give me verrryy littl brake power...but enuff to stop it if imm goin slow... brake light constontly on now.
ive been thinkin...
new brake lines...calipers...rotors...pads..shoes...and maybe now a master cylinder?? thats the part i need help with..all the other stuff ive done before on other car...same basic concept..bleed fluid...replace parts..put new fluid..
never done master cylinder b4...or do i even need it..it has fluid in it...so i kno theres no fluid leak...just when i hit the break...no pressure at all... i need some help...also if maybe som1 has done the same CHEAP i need cheap, how muich u think it will set me back?? \

Master cyliner is the one that controls how deep into the floor you have to press to get stopping power. Sounds like it is gone, and thats what the light is telling you.
Mines about gone too. It will hold fluid, but still go bad. For a re-man, their not all that expensive.
If lines havent been replaced before, now is the time to do it.
If brakes are grinding, your metal on metal, new rotors will be needed.
1. Master Cylinder
2. 2 new rotors
3. Set of front pads
4. New front brake lines
5. I rear brake line
6. Jug of dot 4 fluid
7. Inspect rear pads, replace if needed
8. Inspect rear drums, turn/replace as needed.
dont forget the cussword book
