k-member and a-arms

I was wanting to know who has the best k-member and a-arm suspension setup for tshe 82-92 camaro (for my 89 Iroc). I have read in past threads that people are not satisfied with PA k-member and a-arm setup. I was wondering what others think of BMR k-members and a-arms. I also know that Steve Sphon has mentioned that sometime in 04 he will have a front suspension (k-member and a-arms) setup for these camaros. Steve if you read this thread could you give me an idea when you will have these parts really for us the buy. Let me know if it is worth my time and money to wait for your products. So, far I have be extremely satisfied with your suspension products.

Thanks.

Chad

Spohn makes great products and i am sure they would be worth the wait.

if u cant i would look into the PA Racing Tubular K-Member and ar-arms like u said. it seems most people are happy with them and even have no problems using them for street driving also.

http://www.thunderracing.com/index.c...ategoryid=1141

i would also get the a strut tower bar to keeps things sturdy.

Thanks, for the information. Are there any other companies who sell k-members and A-arms for the 82-92 camaros beside PA, BMR, Steve Spohn sometime in 04, and I know that S&W has just come out with a K-member for these cars.

Does anybody know anything about the S&W K-members. I bought my roll cage from them, and I had no problem with it.

Thanks

anthony jones as well. how much do you want to spend, there are companies out there but your looking at roughly 2,000+ before you even get into the finer points of struts/springs/plates/etc.

the pa unit works fine, if you don't like that one check out aje, bmr or the rest. i'm sure the spohn unit will be nice too when it's done it all depends on what you want.

Spohn emailed me a little while back when I was asking about A arms. He said roughly spring time of 04. We just have to wait and see. I plan to wait...

Was there any rough estimate on cost? I want to lighten things up soon or while I'm doing my swap and I really like what I see from Spohn. But, don't get me wrong, the other companies have some great looking things as well.

I use an AJE one.... I have some experience with the PA one...I definately prefer the AJE one....It is beefier than the PA one...Plus it comes with mounting hardware etc etc...

No, I got no prices or dates, just roughly Spring of '04. I figure I will contact them again at the end of Feb. to see what the status is...I want to do my front end about mid March so I hope he has something by then...

I just ordered the K Member & A Arms from AJE a week or so ago & I will be driving to his place of business next week & picking it up. Off the top if my head it is gonna cost $1200 +/- ( No shipping cost since I'm picking it up), thats for the K Member, A Arms, bumpsteer kit & coilover Springs. I ask him if he'd do a group rate & he told me yes with a savings of 10 to 20 %, he also said that it would take 5 at the minimum to receive the group rate. Well I'm #1 so if you can come up 4 more that want to buy heres the chance to save a few bucks.

I would have loved to wait for the spohn piece, as I'm sure it would be top notch, but I've put it off as long as I could. I don't think theres too much wrong with the PA member, I just think the AJE one is better & the one I ordered will be for Rack & Pinion steering "power, however it takes a Ford Rack, not one from a 4th Gen as I had hoped " & I'm not sure if the PA member can be ordered for a R&P steering. Here is a link to his home page http://www.ajeracing.com/index.htm

If anyone is interested in a AJE purchase you can email me.

Bruce

A Question for Kandied

Kandied91z

I know that you had stated that you loved your Bilstein's with your coilover's & I have a few questions if you would be so kind as to answer them.

#1- I know that you had some trouble getting the bilsteins to fit, so what has to be done for them to fit or can a different model/style be purchased and therefore eliminating the fitament problem ????

#2- What model did you get & are there any choices "like the ones that Koni's have with the red & yellows ???

#3- Where did you purchase yours from ?

#4-Can I buy a front set only as most that I've seen listed come as a set with the rears included ?

Thanks in advance for the info, as you well know, parts are too expensive to buy twice & I'm just trying to get it right the first time.

Bruce

what mounting hardware do you need for this setup?

I think you are refering to the Power Rack & pinion & if so I can't give you a 100% Rock Solid answer yet, but here is what I think & hope will shake out.
The AJE K member that I ordered is manufactured to accept a Mustang power Rack & Pinion unit. This unit should be available at any parts store "Napa, Autozone etc.. ". The bump steer kit cost $119 & is avaliable thru AJE and is needed to attatch the R&P to the wheel spindle assembly's. They also sell the steering shaft that will mate the two & I think I ordered it with my set-up "it's the pits to get old & I can"t find my notes at the minute". the only other thing left are the hoses from the pump to the rack and they should be obtained pretty easily.
Hope this helps and if anyone needs more concrete answers give them a call or I'll try to find out more info mext week when I pick up my parts

Bruce

I would be interested, but I need to save money for other things. Maybe by the time I get the cash together, the Spohn unit will be ready lol. Unless I come into some money quick from my business. If it ever picks up.

Any word on whether any of these will be able to retain separate spring strut suspension? They all appear to be for coilover. Are people road racing Mustangs with coilovers? I will go in on one and possibly two for a group purchase if at at least one is designed to retain the separate coil spring design, unless someone has something that uses a coilover but doesn't put all the load on the strut tower.

MY AJE K-memeber uses STOCK style front suspension....Basically you buy these $15 optional spring pearch plates...They bolt in with the K-member...Works Great... IPlan to run coilover down the road but for money reasons I stuck with factory setup for right now...

I WISH I would have bought the Power Rack mount... Thats the ONLY thing I regret...

Was yours without the mounts so you can use stock gearbox or are the power mounts different than manual? Or is there a difference? I doubt there would be, but you never know. Theres no place here and I don't know anyone with a 3rd gen with a tubular K member, so I can't see it in person. I like to see it before I buy it.

I want to get mine with a small ratio manual rack so I can get rid of the weight and added accessories on the motor for power steering. Don't need to steer too much when you're going in a straight line, so why have power on it, lol. Besides, if I can't get an '03-up alum. block 6.0, I need to compensate for the weight difference of the iron block version.

It's funny though, I talk about shaving weight off the car, but I'm keeping a full interior and adding an 8 point. Ehhh, shouldn't be that much of a difference and still be lighter in the nose.

Kandied91z, the coilovers are a conversion thats pictured on the site. Vernon machines all the parts himself, except the springs. All I know about the springs are that they are 10" tall come in any poundage you wish and are exchangable. If you like them stiff, and thier too lose he sends a different set, you send the others back to him. 89redirocz, As far as color they can do red or black powder coat included in the price....They also do a really trick coating that uses like a white base then a transparent red or blue over that. It looks killer, like anadizoed aluminum..

you don't know the width though of the spring? there was a huge difference in how mine handled changing from 2-2.5-3.

the 3" still could really use a stb for support if you don't have one.
