Well...I need help with something like this...and I really have no help around here. Everyone is busy. There really isn't to many guys around here that can do good mechanical work. I don't trust my driveway, even with jackstands because it's gravel....I don't want anything to slip. It's still pretty cold outside, but I need to get this taken care of first. The shop I'm going to can have it in in about 2 hours. Also, if the vibration/wobbling dosen't go away, I can get something in writting that changing the U-joint did not solve the problem. Those are just a few reasons. Now, if it was body work....I can deal with that.....but this mechanic stuff...I'm not good at.

that sounds more like it...haha
I really haven't been around many mechanics...growing up.....my dad always painted cars....I always watched...and I got interested in that instead of much mechanic work.

well ill tell you a secret. most mech work is grunt work. if you have wrenches you can do it. suspension stuff is the easiest stuff in the world to do. now when you get into building motors with the compression and stuff like that, i get lost. but suspension, electrical and everything else is simple. now about my paint job...

alright...well..I took my car to a shop to get the U-joint fixed. They said it really doesn't need to even be replaced. I told them about the wobbling/vibration problem and they checked it out too. They got the car on a lift....spun the tires...and held a broom stick up to each tire (broom stick being supported) and every tire looked out of round. It would hit the brrom stick and then it wouldn't. Looks like the tires are the problem. After I got it out of the shop, my dad went up to where I got my rims and tires...and told the manager about it. The manager doesn't believe one word (we even got it in writting) and said that my car is running on 7 cylinders...LOL and that's why it's wobbling....I couldn't even make a straight face . Anyhow..I'm going to take it to the shop where I got my tires tomorrow so he can see for himself what the tires are doing. There are waaay to many *******s in the world....I hope this isn't a battle I'm going to lose. I'm just asking to have my car ride normal..just to make it right!

How much did you spend on rims and tires.

My guess is that it is time to get an attorney involved...

This guy has come up with another explanation too many times. How would he know that your car was running on seven cylinders? If that were so then you should have a very rough idle. The problem should be evident even without putting the car in motion...

You need to get your money back from this guy and go to someone reputable to get rims and tires.

You should also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. If he is a member of the BBB they can force a resolution. Even if he is not, having filed a complaint with them the complaint would be visible to others who were trying to check out their reputation before spending money...

I've got a good idea where the broom handle should go...

Good Luck!

I agree man...well..I paid $1608 and some change for everything...the reason I went there is because he is a dad of a friend of mine...I thought I would have been treated with respect...he acts like I don't even know how a car runs...

I just got back. They refused to do the "broom stick" thing....they said that every tire will looked warped in the air while spinning. (my dad was pissed)Anyhow, they took the rims off the car, and spun them on some machine. The said that 2 of the rims have "run out". They are going to order two new rims and tires to see if it cures the problem. Atleast I'm getting the ball rolling now.

The Broom Stick

The broom stick test should be valid whether the tire is in the air or not...

I had a similar situation with the father of a friend. He was/is in the printing business. I went to him for Business Cards. My thinking was that I should "keep it in the family." I knew he would treat me right, after all, his son was my college room mate... That was a catastrophe!

I can't see what the problem is. If he acquired the rims and tires from a reputable source then that source should be prefectly happy to warranty the products from defects...

The thing that a lot of people at tire/alignment shops don't understand is that the suspensions of our cars are stiff by design. The tires that we choose to run on these cars are stiff by design. That stiffness in tires and suspension causes any irregularity to be transmitted into the drivers space much more than would be the case on "your father's oldsmobile..."

At least you have something in motion. Having at this point decided that something was wrong after putting up every other explaination weighs in your favor if you should have to litigate this.

Hope replacing the two rims and tires (could it be both?) gets this resolved for you. Your car is much too nice to have to just look at it!

well...it looks like I'm stuck with a wobbling problem. They order 2 new tires and rims. This is the thing though....my steerting wheel is moving back and fourth...that means a front ned problem doesn't it? Well....they put the new rims and tires on the BACK.....and it still wobbles. It's not as bad.....but it is still there. What me and dad are going to do....is we are going to rotate the fronts to the back...to see if that helps any. (they were ordered so they can be rotated) So......I'll see how that helps. I'm also going to go ahead and put a set of IROC wheels on the front to see if that solves it too. But....it's not as bad...so I guess that's a +....
