You got it and are right on. That top piece is just a panhard bar mount brace thing. There isn't any real aftermarket for that part but I don't think it does much. It has a big kink in anyways for the exahust to clear.

I think I have seen only one real custom piece for that. Once you go aftermarket with everything back there changing that piece won't do much.

what exactly is the point of the brace. With an aftermarket panhard bar, do you even need the brace? I mean, it doesn't look all that strong. Perhaps you could take another adjustable panhard bar and stick that up there. Probably wouldnt fit though.

If you didnt have it im sure the brace that holds the panhard bar would bend.

The brace probably does for the rear. What the steering brace"wonder bar"does for the front end.It reduces bend/flexing on the frame rails.Since one side of the P.bar is bolted to the frame & the other to the axle. When you corner the diff pushes on the bar which in turn leans on the frame. The brace transfers some of the stress to the other frame rail.Thereby reducing stress to the one frame rail.It probably isnt that strong either since its only U-shaped,thats why you want to box it.Boxing by the way means "to weld a flat piece of metal between the open sides of the u-shape & from end to end.So its completely closed up.
