B4C/WS6/1LE sway bar the same?
B4C/WS6/1LE sway bar the same?
Hey guys new here.
I am wondering if the B4C/WS6/1LE front sway bars are the same.
I think they are,but don't know for sure.
The local salvage yard said so but I wanted to check with those who would really know.
I can't count the times that I have bean told that a part will interchange or is the same, then find out it wont

i am pretty sure yes. i know the ws6's usually came with the 36mm front and 24mm and thats the biggest stock ones i have heard of for thirdgens.

I don't know much about suspensions.
Whats an Fe2?
I am wondering...
I want to search the yards for the front 36mm hollow sway bar.
How can I easily tell if the car is a B4C,WS6,1LE,or the mentioned Fe2.
Is there a tag I need to look at?
Maybe some kind of body ID other than the two scoops on the WS6?
Also what years did GM produce the 36mm HOLLOW anti sway bars?

welcome to the boards
not all fe2 cars had the 36mm sway bar, but most had the 24 mm rear. my 87 iroc has the fe2 and has 24 rear but only 36front. all irocs had the wonder bar and only the tta (turbo trans am and the 1le racing package cars) had it.
thanks

best bet is to take an adjustable wrench and measure them, or a digital caliper if you have such a luxury.
i know there's some standard to metric equation out there, but i have the digital caliper that switches to metric. very nice.
also, when you find these larger sway bars, don't say anything that may give the junkyards the idea that they're rare, or desirable. that gives the junkyard (especially a shady type of guy) more price leverage to use against you.

I can't believe that anyone would do that
That's as bad as the guy's trying to sell them for 80 plus shipping
on Ebay and a couple of the other boards I have found
Actually one place (U-Pull It) knew what I was looking for before I even asked.I said do you have a front sway bar for a 88-91 Camaro/Firebird.The guy said we have the 34mm ones but no 36mm ones.He said that is probably what you are looking for right?
They had one at another place that was on the other side of the state. They said that if it was shipped to me it would cost $65.00 total. They didn't know if it still had the bushings or not.
Hummm....
Lets see...
An ugly, rusted sway bar that I am going to have to repaint...
With no mounting hardware,so I'm gunna have to purchase mounts...... :hail:
No thanks.I looked at about 6 yards today and I think I might have found one, maybe two of the 36mm bars.
One of them was on a Z/28 but I don't know what year it was,it was prety picked over and it wasn't marked.I did notice there was a hole in it close to the end link mounting points.
Does this sound like it would be the 36mm one?
I guess I'll have to get a cheap digital caliper.

Some Camaros, 89-92, had the hollow 36 mm/solid 24 combo, and some 86-92 Firebirds were equipped. The hollow bars have a hole near the end links. All that I've seen are also powder-coated black. Measure to be sure as I've been told there's a hollow 34 as well. The last I knew the 36/24 combo was still available from GM as part #'s 14094344 and 10035033. Should you wants the higher durometer bushings the GM part #'s are as follows: 14094389 and 10037104. The end links are 10221779.

the guy above has a pair of 36/24 for $50 plus shipping. he lives in allentown, pa.
you can find them cheap, if you look around. i bought a set in chicago for $50 this past november.
after my friend bought his iroc back from the insurance company (it was stolen and totalled in september), i had him ship me the wonder bar. he sent me the front swaybar as well. once i saw it was a 36mm, i immediately asked for the rear bar as well.
i can't say exactly how much i paid for them, but they were very inexpensive. he needed to get these parts out of his garage, and sold them to me cheap. if the set weren't already spoken for, i'd sell you mine for $50 plus shipping.
also, as far as a digital caliper... you may check any area tool stores such as harbor freight, etc. i know summit carries them as well.
best of luck to ya.
I contacted him about the bars.
He was willing to sell them to me.
I visited the sight today and he posted that they are from a 4th gen car.
Can I still use them?
I was told that they will not work on a third gen.

Where are you located? I've also got an extra 36mm front swaybar. The holes on the underside of each end are an easy way to spot a hollow bar vs. a solid one. They are right where it starts to flatten out to form the lugs on the ends. I'm not sure on the availability of hollow 34mm bars, so you'd have to check around before being able to assume any hollow bar is 36mm.
I'm in Oregon.
I was gunna to go to the yard where I saw a bar with the hole in it today after work.I'm hoping that it is a 36mm one.
That is utill I was told this little tid bit about 20 minutes before the shift end :nono:
"You need to work till 6 or 6:30PM today.Oh and you need to come in at 8AM tomorrow and work till 6:30."
:hail:
That means that I will not be able to get to the yard till Wed at the earliest

I pulled my 36MM from from an 87-90 formula at the junk yard. It even still had the WS6 badge on the dash, so I know it came originally on it.

Yeah, but are the shapes and whatnot the same in the 4'th gen sway bar as the thirdgen? I know I can get 36 mm bushings, I just wanted to make sure that it has all the same bends and everything else as the thirdgen bars...
