offset and back spacing
i'm gonan be gettign new wheels soon and i am goign to order soem boyd coddington magneato's in 17 by 8 and i was wondering what backspacing i should get if i still want to be able to roate the tire on all four corners. anyone know what offset and backspacing i should orderthem in
depends on the model of your car as to what offset your hubs are at as well as where you want the cars wheels sitting.
why not just find out what your stock factory offset is and then let boyd know to build it to spec. for example the stock setup on my 91 is 0 front offset and +16 rear. figure out what your own is and when you do recieve your rims be sure to test fit before you mount the tires so that you can return them if there are any problems otherwise you'll learn the hard way.

Your backspacing and offset will be determined based on the wheel width. For an 8" wide wheel, the correct backspacing is 4.5". If you want to rotate the wheels front to rear, get the same offset front and rear and get tires that will work with rotating. If you would like to find the offset / backspacing for other wheel widths, go on google and do a search for Skulte Adapter FAQ. Andris's page will explain in detail how to determine the correct backspacing and offset for your 3rd gen. Put some work into it, and you'll find the perfect setup for you.

ok my car is an 89 camaro rs. i want the tires to not be stickig out of the fenders. ok so the back spacing i need is 4.75 but if there offset is different between the front and theback which one should i get to make them able to rotate? i don't plan on going to throughboyd but i think i will be getting them from discounttire it syas i can get them in 41mm or 0mm shoul di gt the 0's ?
how do you know you need 4.75?
if you change offsets front/rear you won't be able to swap them around unless your rears are setup the same. i don't know about your car but with my car even stock i couldn't just rotate easily with the tires. it was something i accepted when i bought the car.

Yes, you can run the same offset on all four wheels. As mentioned, the factory 8" wide wheels use a 0mm offset in front and a +16mm offset in the rear.
To be able to rotate the wheels, you'd simply run all front wheels or 0mm offset. IIRC, the backspacing works out to 4.5" or possibly 4.25". The Skulte web site has all this info. in detail with info. on how to calculate for other wheels widths.
With all 4 wheels at 0mm, the rear wheels will stick out a tad further, but it shouldn't be a problem. It probably won't even be that noticeable. The guys racing 3rd gens in the CMC Series do this all the time so they can swap wheels quickly in the pits.

Stock is 4.75" front and 5.25" rear.
25.4mm=1" so,
16mm= (16/25.4)= .630" of a difference between front and rear. I think for a stock car that 5.0" even for all 4 will work fine.

I'm considering buying a set of 16 x 8 racing wheels from Circle Racing and had planned to go with a back spacing of 4.75" at all four corners. This includes compensating for the .5" that the 1LE brakes push the front wheels outward over the factory cast iron brakes.

I can measure if and when I swap my fronts to rear and vice versa...don't have an idea when I will tho..
But I'd trust what Andris (Skulte) lists on his site, he's been doing adapters for quite a while now.
