width of 15's

Were all 15 inch F-body rims 7" wide. These ones are from an 85 trans am and have 215's on them. I was just curious as to the maximum width of tire that can go on a 7" rim??

I have 255/60 R15 tires on my 89RS and the tires are very nice and meaty. They are a tad wider than the ones on my 90 IROC (245-50-16's)

About 235/60 is the maximum size that will really fit right. 245 is a little too wide. 255 .... is over 3½" wider than the wheel. That's not good; even if it goes on the wheel fits in the wheel well and "looks" "good", it's not right. Not a good fit.

Buddy of mine has 255 series tires on the back of his mustang. They were on pony wheels so the rims were only 7'' wide. They fit ok and he never had a problem but it did look strange.

ok, cool thanks guys.

I was looking at tires the other day as it is getting near replacement time and saw a few performance tires and wonder what comments people have that have tried them. They were:

BFG Radial TA
Goodyear Eagle GPS
Predator GTS Radial

Good, bad?? Any other suggestions?

thanks

Apparently the BF Goodrich Traction series are very good for a very low price.

but don't your front tires rub the wheel well when you crank the steering all the way?
