C4 brake question/experiences
Hey. Altough I have had my C4 brake upgrade from Ed for over 1 year I only have about 2000-3000 miles on them.
First my review........They were easy to install, and after I put them back on my brakes never fade, but here is the problem.
They are hard!!! Hard as in you gotta really push em to get them to stop and this was even as soon as I put them on(ie before they sat and got any kind of build-up or film on them. ) Sometimes it seems the harder you push does not do anything more.
I was wondering what pads, yall are using on your setups to give it a better feel.
Thanks
Chris

could be a bad booster master cylinder or they might just need a good bleed. check that out but if you are using a harder pad that might have a little to do with it but I dont think it should make your breaks that stiff

Hi Chris. I did notice a firmer pedal but not a hard one, at least not as you described it. Did you swap out the master cylinder for the disc/drum (J55) master? If not, I'd do that. That's what the 1LE cars use and those are the same calipers essentially.
Ed
PS: I still want the rearend, I'm just a bit busy lately...in the hospital having a baby. I hope it's still available.

[edit] Oops, ment to say J50 for drum, not J65.

The bigger brakes should grab better. My 1LE brakes made a major improvement in m how my car stops. The pedal feels about the same, maybe a tad firmer, but the car stops with ease. I'm using the EBC Greenstuff pads in front with Hawk pads in the rear.
The big problem I have is that the '88 rear discs can't keep up with the 1LE fronts and I have too much front brake bias.

Actually, it's J50 for the disc/drum/1LE master cylinder. J65 was the disc/disc mc until 1990 when GM decided to use the J50 for all F-body models.

I've got Ed's C4 brakes too. Though I haven't logged too many miles on them (less than 2K) I haven't noticed a harder pedal since they were installed back in January, just the firm pedal that it's supposed to have. My car is a 90 and came with disc/drums so I have the J50 MC everyone is referring to.
