Firehawk Indy 500 Tires

Indy 500

My boss tested these and reccomended them for my car. He also reccomended the Firehawk SZ520, but the cost and tread life steer me away.

I need 245/50/16

Anyone use either of these before?

I've heard that the Indy 500s hook very well for a street tire. I know a couple Nova guys who are pulling 1.9x 60' times with slapper bars on a stock converter. That's pretty damn good.

I have the Firehawks on my 99 Firebird (amazing handling) and Indy 500s on my 84 Z28. I drive the Firebird 90% of the time so I'm more familiar with the Firehawk's. I think Firestone makes one of the best all around tires out there for the price. I highly recommend either of them.

hmmm...

....wow, thats great news guys, I looked up the Indy 500 tires on tirerack.com and all the people who reveiwed them said they loved them. However, everyone I talk to in person says that firestone's are POS's(probablly ONLY due to their recent incident we all know of from a few years ago).
So now I guess I know what tires I'll be getting!

Don't judge a tire by those Tirerack rating charts. They show the Indy500 to be compatable to the SZ50EP from reader imput. They are even in the same ballfield. The SZ50EP's will run circles around the Indy500's head to head- not even close.

firestone makes more then one tire with the same name.

the firehawks on my car when i bought it were the worse tires i ever owned... minimal traction, loud tread, no traction, squeeled alot at low speed parking lot turning (making everyone turn and think i was going fast when i wasnt.. ugh), no traction and they didnt grip all that well either.... but they did last almost 50k with a bad alignment.

meanwhile there are other firestone firehawks that stick really well...(dont ask me the model numbers.. i dont know... i cant memorize everything.... )

just go look at the tirerack charts.... they ALL are good. dont trust them worth anything, just find 3 or 4 people with the tires they have and talk to them.

I have sz50's on my ride now. I love them. They are the best tires I have ever put on there. I havent driven in snow, but rain traction is pretty good, and as far as tread life goes...I'm only at like 5k miles, so who knows.

Those Indy 500's look like my old Firehawk SS 20s. Which
were the worst tires I have ever owned. No grip, lateral traction sucked, forget about rain. Their only saving grace was life, they lasted damn near three years.

I have sz50eps on mine for autox events only. Grip quite well, dont squeal in normal driving.

However, due to my driving style when their on the car, I have noticed a quick reduction in tread life
