rear wheel rub, big time!!

here is what is on the car

Eibach sportlines
ZR-1 17x9.5 wheels 275/40's
2inch spacers

ok so only rear passenger rubs like a mother, no matter how small a bump i hit, it scrapes bad, starting to take chucks of tire with it.

what do i need to cure this?

1. better stiffer shocks?
2. adj. panhard bar?
3. bigger bump stops?

anyone that can help, please do.

Its most likey both shocks and rear not centered. What shocks are on it- are they stock? You want me to take a quick look at it , let me know If I recall you're the one that lives over on Hamilton? I'm on Sycamore a few blocks southeast of you. Suspensions are my specialty (just a hobby though-I don't do it professionally). Afrikingoodtime@aol.com

I would say you need an adjustable panhard rod to center the rear axle.

i'd say the problem is right here......

Eibach sportlines
ZR-1 17x9.5 wheels 275/40's

that is too wide of a tire for a low drop like that......what do you have for shocks? throw on some bilstein sports. they go nicely with the sportline and should stiffen it up. bumpstops are a start but you obviously have to wide of a wheel with the offset your running.....either have your adapters milled or changed to a stiffer shock.

only rear passenger rubs like a mother
I was under the impression that if only 1 tire is rubbing then the rear is not centered. Thus the adjustable panhard rod.

And if both are rubbing then Kandied91z is right.

Hum....

Roll the fender lip....

Extreme rubbing calls for extreme measures....lol

I took an Industrial Milwaukee grinder to that fender lip......it no longer exsists and what was left i went to town to it with a hammer....

No more rubbing for me.....

I don't know if i'm wider then you are since i'm running 4th gen wheels on a 4th gen rear, but my wheels are 19's and i'm also running lowering springs.....

the shocks are Monroe sensitracks (dont laugh, i didnt put them on, came with the car)

yeah only 1 side is rubbing. i dont think the width is too large because some people are using 315 on 11's and dont rub.

i just got the panhard bar yesterday, jut need to get some bushings. the driver side rear looks to be well inside the wheel well, by about .5 inches. so im inclinded to think its the rear not being centered.

im switching to a 4th gen rear end soon, so im going to wait to put any suspension mods on. no point doing it now, i dont want to do it twice.

so Bilstiens are a good rear shock? can i get them locally? i dont want to have to order them from summit or jegs. i also need some LCA's and lower brackets, dont suppose i can get those locally either? thanks for your helps guys.

anyone who is running that wide of a wheel either has a minitub or doesn't have the car dropped. you cannot physically do such a wide wheel and not make modifications as it just isn't possible. i have only 10" and i had to do work to the quarter inside/out to be able to have any real drop in the car.

sounds like you definately need an adjustable panhard which you say you ordered so that's good. once you have it centered to the frame then see what happens and go from there.

good luck with it.

Here's what happened to me.......
Major tire rub in the rear passenger well! What I did was replace the worn bump stops, and bought the KYB Gas-a-Just shocks in the rear! I also bought the lakewood adjustable panhard rod just in case. After everything was on, had no problems! I really think it was the bump stops, when I touched the factory ones they fell right off no lie! Gm ordered me two new ones and they were a polyurethane!!!! (Nice) I guess they've been a proble before?
Anyway I'm stock hieght, w/ 17x9.5 275-40-17! Hope that's of any info to you.....

i would definately say that would help if your hitting the bumpstops. sounds like your shocks were shot and even with a perfect setup if your resting on the bumpstops like i am you will be extremely tight to the body and need work to keep from rubbing anything. at your height that width and size is perfect, you should have no problems if your suspension is good and your body is straight. however even with a sportline (2") drop your going to need alot more then that to keep from rubbing. especially under hard turns and acceleration.
