Roll bar install

I'd like to get and install a 8 point roll bar in my 82 Camaro. But all i have is 150amp arc welder. Am i screwed? Do you think that it would be possible to use this when welding to the floor?

Thanks

i'd get a GMAW (mig) welder. you'll make it a lot harder on yourself with a stick (SMAW) machine. just so you know mig is arc welding as is tig and stick along with a few other processes.

Sorry i should have said stick welder. I know its really easy to get a good weld when welding thick stuff (>.08") How thin or what gage is the floor pan?

I just put a 10pt cage in my 82z and used a mig and still had some trouble with blowing out the floor in areas where there was some rust. Your stick will do fine for welding the pipes together and onto the plates but I wouldn't use it from the plates to the floorpans

Maybe I don't remember right, but doesn't the NHRA rulebook say you can't use stick to weld the cage?

the smaller rods don't really make it easier to weld. the ideal diameter is 3/32 or 1/8 it gets harder to use going up or down from there.

Apeiron, you have remembered correctly. NHRA requires MIG or TIG for all welds.
