K member bolts

I was under the car on the weekend and noticed that one of the K member bolts is missing . It is on the passenger side towards the rear of the car. Basically where the rearward part of the A arm attaches. The bolt goes through kind of an "L" bracket.

Any idea what size these are and where you can order them? WOuld GM have them?

thanks.

it's a 12 mm bolt... (don't ask, just is)

11/16s fits.... about 3 inches wrong, I've had it out a few times recently... has a tapered end.... helps when you need to hammer it in...

So if they're M12 (aka 12mm) bolts, then how long are each of them?

Also are the bolts, actually bolts (which have a small section of non threaded shaft), or are they set screws (threaded all the way from the head to the end)?

I take it these should be grade 8 or 8.8 (aka 10.9 in metric)?

Si.

lots of non-threaded....

measure the width of where it connects and add 1/2 inch

don't have it in my hand, but it's about 3.5 inches

mine has funny markings on it, no grade markings that I've ever seen....

There was a thread on this not too long ago - someone posted a schematic showing all the bolt locations and if I'm not mistaken the bolts were of different lengths - torque was 120.

yea, all 3 are diffrent lengths. shortest in back, longest in front.

pull the bolt from the otherside, goto lowes, and they should have the correct metric bolts for the rear one there. they dont have the longer ones needed for the front 4 though

Did you get a chance to measure up these bolts? My k-member swap has been delayed though as the container was held back 3 weeks. Serves me right for trying to save some cash, by taking the slow boat.....

But still I need to know what these bolts are so I can order them in before I get stuck into the swap.

Ok, Here ya go. There are three different lengths per side. One is 5" long, the second is 4" long, and the third is 2-1/4" Long but only 2" of it being threaded. Measurements are from end to end and included the head. All 3 have 10.9 on the head.......jt

Tried to post a pic but wont work. just look at the first pic in sig for pic of all three bolts with tape measure..........jt

Yeah great info! Thanks for the help in getting these details. Seems like I'll have to try a few different places to get these different lengths....

side note:

with a tubular Kmember, all 6 are the same as the short one.

Great, the one I need is not available anymore Thanks for this info......awesome. I take it that for the rear bolt, which appears to have a "tip" on it that is not threaded, the 31mm excludes the head of the bolt and the "tip"???? So only the threaded part, right?

Would that "tip" serve any purpose? I could just get a shorter bolt completely threaded and do just the same, right?

the tip makes it easier to install... other then that, it doesnt do anything.

in the two cars i put aftermarket kmembers in, we used high grade bolts from the hardware store.. as long as they're grade 10 or better you can use them... just dont goto home depot and get the ungraded, unmarked bolts that match.. thoes are soft and your asking for trouble.

btw, lowes does sell the correct size bolts.... however i dont recall the size... but Goumba T posted them above.

i usually go by the remove the bolts and compare method.....

heres where you can find info on grades: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...grade+markings
