I KNOW THAT THIS PROBABLY BEEN ASKED AND ANSWERED A THOUSAND + TIMES, SO IF SOMEONE IN THE KNOW WOULD JUST HUMOR ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT!
I HAVE THE CHANCE TO BUY AN EARLIER 80'S TRANS AM (3RD GEN OF COURSE!) DISC BRAKE REAR END WITH A DIFFERENT GEAR RATIO THAN MY CAR PRESENTLY HAS. MY CAR IS A 1992.
WILL THE ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER BE THROWN OUT OF WHACK BY THIS SWAP? WILL I HAVE TO CHANGE SOME OBSCURE PLASTIC GEAR SOMEWHERE IN THE TRANSMISSION?
WILL ANY 3RD GEN REAR PROPORTIONING VALVE (DISC BRAKE) WORK TO COMPLETE THIS SWAP?
ANY OTHER HEADACHES LOOMING DOWN THE ROAD FOR ME?
THANKS,
SHIPFITTER

first peice of advice, don't use the caps lock, and second run a search this has been asnwered about a thousand times
thanks
thanks
If you want a rearend with disc brakes dont go with an older one. The newer ones with PBR aluminum brake calipers are much better.

there is no "obscure" gear in the tranny.. just the one that drives the VSS but there is just 1 to be had. You can buy a Dakota Digital box ( search on here.. i can't remember the model) anyway you can use it to correct for the off speedo.. and if you are changing rearend gear then yes it will be off. When I put my LT1 in I had to program the computer so I could enter all that in.. although i still had to have a dakota box for other reasons.. anyway.. they are about $80us and work great.. wiring for it is found under the pass side dash. and if u search for my nick I wrote up a quicky how to..

First off the caps lock is more annoying than someone misspelling a word or two on here.
Second there is the little button at top that says
try it first it works great and can answer a question like this very quickly for you third being a smart *** on here will get you no where with the other members and noone will want to answer any of your questions ..

Thanks for your 2 cents worth.
I did run the search and did not find what I wanted to know.....much like your post.
I did not start this ruckus nor was I the first "smart a$$" (i thought swearing was not allowed on here....breaking the rules yourself "the general"?). I guess only certain people are required to follow certain rules.
If you cannot answer the question you are contributing zero.....pretty much like 2 cents worth.
Thanks for the effort.

I surrender. It is hard to be a butt head if someone is being nice.
I really like the word "invective".
I looked at alot of these posts already and am just not finding what it is that I want. Like it is skirting the periphery.
Is there a tech article somewhere on here that details the changing out a rear end with different gear ratios? From drum to disc?
Thanks.
shipfitter
P.S. I could explain submarine ops and construction or shipbuilding destroyers. Swap a rear end and I lose focus, easily.
