For those that have done the 4th gen rear swap does it matter if the rear has traction control or not? I have found some with traction control and some without. Just wondering if it matters at all, and what the difference is.

 

Doesn't matter.

All it means, is that it has the brackets to mount the wheel speed sensors.

 

theres 2 ABS/traction control rears out there.

one (more commonly found on the LT1 rears) has a sensor ontop of the pumpkin. if the sensor is not in there, then you need to make a blockoff plate... its just a small (about 1" ) hole you need to cover, with a bolt hole next to it.

the other rear has the sensors on the axle near the flanges. you dont need to do anything to them.

 

There IS a difference. The 4 channel (traction control) rear has 2 separate brake lines, while the 3 channel (ABS) rear has a single line that splits in factory thirdgen fashion. Since you cannot reuse your stock brake lines, you will need the lines off a 3 channel rear or make your own.

 

So i should look for an LS1 rear, preferably without TC?

 

I was able to replace the 2 line setup on my LS1 rear end with stock lines from a 3rd gen with discs. You have to bend the lines a little bit to get them to reach the brakes, but they worked fine.

use your 3rdgen brake lines.

 

Won't work if you were originally equipped with rear drums - I tried it. Even with rear disc I didn't think you could make them work.

 

I just bought new lines and connected them to the stock "T" that attaches to the top of the pumpkin.

If you change the brake lines, it doesn't matter what rear you get.
Traction control rears have the sensors in the backing plates and reluctor rings on the axles, and the non-TC rears have the ABS sensor in the top of the pumkin.

If you need to change the studs for some reason, having axles with traction control makes it harder to replace since the reluctor ring needs to come off and it is pressed on.
