Different Spindles on our F-bodies??

Hey guys. I'm new to the 3rd gen. cars.

I've got a question for the resident experts here.

Are there two different types of spindles? I had a guy say that he thought GM used two different spindles throughout the years on the 3rd gen.

Anyone know? Or have pictures of them??

Thanks!

The only thing i can think of is the 1LE brake option. But i am not 100% sure.

The spindles were pretty much all the same throughout the years. It was discovered and brought up in the LS1 brake thread that there was a difference in some of the holes for dust sheild on the spindle. The earlier spindles had more of a raised area around them and later ones didnt.......or something like that. So there could be a difference in other small things too. But overall the are all about the same.

There are standar brake spindles and 1LE brake spindles from the factory.

The 1LEs are made from the standar spindle castings. The were cut and drilled from the factory- You can do this yourself with basic tools. (Cutoff wheel grinder, drill and bit .332", and a 3/8-24 tap)

So that is all i would need to do to upgrade my regular brakes to 1LE brakes? Besides new rotors and pads and calipers

And brackets.

This is the same exact modification needed for Baer brakes also- matter of fact I think thats where I originally found this document. Baers are basically identical to 1LE's, just prettier looking- same PBR caliper.

I used this thread to assist in modding the front brakes (check Spohn's site. He sells the 1LE kit):

Here's another thread, should you ever decide to do the rears:

gm did have two different spindles. One is for the 10inch brakes and the other is for the 12 inch 1le brakes . You can put 1le brakes on your car but you have to cut some parts of the spindle off and you also have to drill and tap two dust shield holes.
heres some pics. I did c5 corvette brakes but the idea is the same .
