Winter tires for a 15x7 wheel.

I don't know how long the rear winter tires will last on my 82 TA, so I thought I should gather information now. Right now they have 215/65/15s by a brand called hercules. My dad uses 235/60/15s BF goodwrench Radial T/As for the 90 during winter.

I have run a lot of miles (50k or so) on Radial T/A's. And I have done a good bit of snow driving (going skiing in northern NM as well as other dry driving) on Michelin XGT-H4s. All in 235/60R15. I'm looking at getting about twice as many miles out of the Michelins compared to the BFGs.

After all that I think Radial T/A's suck, and I wouldn't buy them again.

I think I would get some M+S tyres on some cheapie S10 or f-body wheels and use them winter only, instead of going for an "all season" tyre.

The 7 inch wheels will be used for winter only, I have a set of 16x8s for the summer.

When I looked for winter only 215/65/15s on tirerack.com, I noticed they can get fairly expensive. I didn't see any 235/60 winter only tires, so thats why I looked for something all around. I work at a dealership, so I believe I can get the best deal there.

I gave up trying to drive my Camaro in the winter. Especially after I got in painted. I bought a 4x4 blazer.

I would just stick with actual snow tires. That is if you want to go to all the trouble switch out tires just for the winter. Look for tires that have been siped. This is where the cut lots off tiny groves in all the tread. Better for in the snow.

Never had a problem with my Radial T/a's... I always wonder why people say they suck in the rain/snow/whatever- and we get a lot of snow/rain/etc in Jersey. Just look at all the rust on my car! (sigh)

I do drive it in the winter. I need to wax it for the last time of the year, and my dad lubes up the inside of the rear quarters.

The worst part is the salt.

How much did you pay for them?

Ha....you haven't lived until you've driven in 3" of snow that hasn't really been driven on with 245/50R16 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s The least bit of throttle and you'd feel the rear slip a bit. I had to IDLE down my street, and I couldn't make it up my driveway...which *MIGHT* be a 10* incline. Though maybe the 350lbs of sand bags I had in the back may have worsened traction. Took 100lbs out last night.

Picking up a set of black-painted 16x8 salad shooters today for $60 and then buying some Winterforce M+S tires for $65each in P215/55R16 size. Those should work pretty decent
