I bought some fancy shmancy high $$ chrome plated acorns from O'Reilly's, and the stupid things are rusty after only 3 months. They look terrible. Where can I get some well made OEM or acorn style lug nuts that won't look like **** after a few months? 1987 with rallye style wheels.

The chrome lug nuts on my daily driver are over 5 years old and show no signs of rust.

#1 thing to keep lug nuts from rusting. Use hand tools to remove and install them. Torque them to 80 lbs. As soon as an impact is used, it will chip the chrome and rust can start.

I also bought good quality lugnuts. I think they were Mcguards or something like that.

I'm a McGard fan. My wheel lock key had broke and I bought a pack of McGards to replace them. After three months the lugs showed no signs of rusting or chipping. In fact, it looked quite ridiculous because they were the only four shiny lug nuts on the whole car.

You want some trick lightweight openend 7 sided lugnuts that wont corrode and are 12mm x 1.5 pitch? Kyokugen titanium lugnuts fit onto our cars. I was running them until I swaped my brakes and axles and went to 1/2" studs instead of 12mm.

Most of the "Tuner" shops sell them, they are pretty slick.

Thats a McGards 1/2" chrome caped stud on the left and a Kyokugen 12mm lightweight titanium racing lug on the right.
Kyokugen's shown on the car with ARP 2 1/2" wheelstuds.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I really like the look of those Kyokugen lugs, and an online search turned up lots of good reviews. There are no tuner shops close by, so I will look into getting some online.

btw, the junk chrome ones that I bought have never been touched with an impact. I put them on very carefully by hand, and torqued them in sequence to 90 ft lbs. They are rusting all over, not just where the socket touched them.

Hey Dean (weird saying Hey Dean instead of hearing Hey Dean ), any chance you'd be selling those lugnuts? How big of a weight difference am I going to notice, like 8oz on the entire set? I just need some replacement lugnuts and I hate the factory locking ones I have now. These are kind of a cool idea it seems.

Also had a question about some brake stuff, do you have AIM at all? My AIM name is deanh87 or you can just email me at dean@xibase.com
