ZO6 wheels... what tires ?

i just got a set of 17x9.5 and 18x10.5 ill be using 2 inch spacers, but i keep hearing alot of diffrent opinions on tires sizes, according to Discount here's what it HAS to have, i read otherwise here at thridgen....

265/40/17
295/35/18

Is it better for ride quiality to have the same profile for front and rear ? Im trying to get into a set as best i can while not going through the roof on tires, right now it looks as if ill be spending more on tires than i did on the rims..... Give me your best econiomical answer....

Thanks !

the difference in profile offsets the difference in wheel size. If you were to use the same profile on both those size rims your rear would be higher then the front of the car.

looks like you got some decent motor mods.... i would stay as wide as possible on that rear rim and sticky as possible to hook up. not sure if nitto 555r's are made in that size but could be

other than that. Gforce KD's are nice or the dry and wet version for better tread wear and wet ride...

I used the Tire Rack when getting the "stock" size for my 98 Vette rims....do they look funny that way. Try to get a front tire with a lower profile than the rear (ie 275/35 front and 275/40 rear). The profile number is an aspect ratio of the tread width and side wall height. You will find that a wider tire with the same profile size is shorter than a tire that is narrow. Trust me when I say....don't go with the 245/45-17's up front...that is one tall tire compared to the rear!!!

What 245/45-17 and 275/40-18 have the exact same sidewall height.

The Z06 wheels are much wider than the regular vette. Infact they are 1" wider all the way around the stock Z06 wheels are 9.5"*17 and 10.5"*18.

So you want a wider tire to go with them. The stock Z06 sizes are perfect. Just like the stock regular vette sizes are.

What? I think you need to brush up on your tire size info. A narrower tire with the same profile will be shorter than a wider tire with the same profile.

I'd recommend to just go with the tire sizes on tire rack. I have the regular '98 Vette wheels with 17x8.5 and 18x9.5 and run the stock 245/45R17 and 275/40R18. The rears are an inch taller than the fronts. I think it looks alright though. Doesn't make the difference in rim diameters as noticeable.

I've been trying to figure out what tire sizes I'll go with next time, but really I think I'll be sticking with the same sizes or *MAYBE* going to the sizes that they recommend for the Z06 wheels (the sizes you're looking at) if they'll fit on my slightly narrower rims. I don't see a problem with it though. I must say, its depressing to look at tire prices. Fuzion ZRi's are nice and cheap for the front, but they don't make any decently wide 18" tires. For a cheap high-performance tire, look to the Kumho MX. That's probably what I'll end up buying, unless I somehow get a deal on a set of BFG KD tires (not likely).
