track bar brace bolt

My track bar has some play in it at the pass side through-bolt. I can hear it banging when I shift. I cant seem to tighten it up any. Does anyone else have the same problem? What makes it worse is the noise from the heat shield when it bangs.

As far as I know, there is no bushing, just a steel sleeve. I cant move it back and forth but I can twist it slightly up and down. I'm afraid that the bolt holes in the brace have elongated a bit.

I have this same problem, but I have an adjustable panhard that should be home when I get there tonight. That's how I'm fixing it.

KagA152:: Yeah...I think i just need to pull that bolt out and see exactly whats going on. Everything else in my rear susp in boxed or tubular so the track bar brace is currently the weakest link.

If the bolt holes in the brace have elongated I'll just get another brace at a salvage yard or buy the boxed aftermarket one.

I need to clarify for some of you guys in this post that I'm talking about the panhard (i.e track bar) brace. It links the panhard bar to the body.

Sorry I thought you were talking about the panhard bar (body to track bar) not the track bar (body to panhard). I would check my bolt was smaller for some reason which let to the hole becoming elongated.

Well....I went to the salvage yard and picked up a 4th gen track bar brace and just for the hell of it boxed it in and painted it. On the install I used rubber bushings between the heat shield and track bar brace.

But that is the MOST stupid bolt ever. It tapers down on one side so its a one way application: the threads have to face toward the rear of the car. So there is some play between the brace metal sleeve and the tapered end of the bolt. But there isnt much you can do about it except reallt crank on the bolt during installation to get it as tight as possible.

I got a H/D servo in my trans a few weeks ago. Every time I hit 2nd gear hard I hear a knock in the pass side rear. I think its due to play in the brace. I dont know.
