Effects of Lowering Springs

I have a few question that someone might be able to help me with I got this week off work by surprise. I have a set of Eibach Sportline lying around. If I change just the springs and leave my shocks, struts, Panhard bar and LCA brackets alone will it have any ill effects? I will replace theses parts over the next month or so but I have this week off so I am board and want something to do. Will it hurt anything?

They will be fine but lowering springs will eventually destroy your stock shocks/struts. My rears were completely ruined after a year with my springs. Your rear will be miss alligned until you can get an adjustable panhard rod. LCA relocation brackets aren't a must but do put your LCA's back to the stock angle.

Check out ebmiller88's website. He has some great pictures of spring installs. The rears are easy and can be swapped out in minutes but the fronts take a little more of your time.

Well I did one front in 30min but then I striped my lug nut key . I have to go tomorrow and have the locks removed. Then I can finish the other 3. A good point to bring up though do not stand in front of the spring when removing it. It flew 3 feet away from the car.

You need to put a chain around it to prevent this and lower the jack slowly. The safest way is to rent/get a coil spring compressor.

only three feet?!?!? i would imagine it going through the garage wall or if your outside, more like 30 feet. Definitly invest in the spring compressor. Free rental at autozone there is no reason not to.

It only flew 3 feet is because it got stuck on the a-arm but the spring was pretty much uncompressed. I can see if I just drop the jack it would go flyin.

You will need to re-align the car after completing the swap. There is a provision in the stock K-Member to loop a chain around the middle coil of the spring and secure it to the K-Member. You can then lower the A-Arm completely and use a hammer to unseat the spring. It will pop out but the chain will prevent it from flying out. This is very dangereous what you did, lucky nobody got hurt. I will have pictures of this entire process soon.

You do not need spring compressors to remove springs on our cars. Installing stock height springs is a different story, in that case I say yes use the compressor.
