4.11 rear end

not sure if this is the right place to put this, but is there any way to get 4.11 gears for a 9 bolt rear end that they put in some of the third gens. if not wat rear end is easiest to get 4.11's in that will fit under my thirdgen firebird.

I'd find a 4th gen rear with discs have 4.11 gears put in it and bolt it right in.

not to steel this post, but regarding 4:11...i like them for acceleration, but i think there is a big problem with them for top end speed (i have 4:11 in my car) at about 65 MPH my RPMs are around 2200, and once i get up to 90 they go way up...the car sounds as if it needs to shif up into a higher gear (a 5th gear would be nice) but it just seems too low...is there anything that can be done about it?

friends of mine have a 98 camaro Z28 that has a 6 speed in it. thats the only way he can get away with running 4.11,s on the street. basicly im looking for somthing that i can switch out like for a weekend. ill have one rear end set up with 4.11, and then in the car now i have 3.73,s which run great on the highway.

Don't forget that a 4th gen rear is wider than a 3rd so you will have to use 4th gen wheels or go with the old hot rod look with them sticking out each side about an inch and a half!
With the 4:11 you could go with a 28" tire and that would be kinda like a 3:90. Also the taller tire will give you better traction than the dink 26".

Gears

do you think that the 4:11 gears in my car are putting a damper on my top speed?...or getting to my top speed....is it bad for the car to accelerate up to 100 or 120 with those gears since my RPMs are pretty high?...any comments or suggestions are appreciated. thanks

tpi

If your still using TPI, your car will be alot slower. TPI cars love 3.23 - 3.53 gears

yea the tpi/tbi dont have any top end, all bottom end torque, so 4.11 i think would blow you right by your power band. Some 3.42 or 3.55 i think would be perfect, now if you had like an ls1 or even a lt1 those love gears because they rev a lot higher expecialy the ls1. Plus with the 6 speed going with 4.11's is like nothing because you still only pull 2400 rpms at 90.

don't forget that you can run a taller tire too! i am running a 28" tall tire and it helps keep rpms down on the street and takes advantage of the larger roll-out on the tire, which helps with traction if your running a drag radial or slick or something along those lines.

look man I run 4.11 gears on the street but i also run a .62 overdrive 5 gear trans that puts the rpm at 2300 at 75mph and I have had the car way over 150mph and that is plenty fast the car runs 12.30s at over 112mph I dont have the best timeslip handy but the car is very drivable It is my daily driver

.

4.11's may be too deep.. plus they don't have alot of aftermarket supports on those aussie rearends.
