Faint clunking from the front that goes away with brakeing

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this. But their is a faint clunking noise that seems to be comming from the passenger side whenever I hit a bump. If I apply the brakes and hit a bump it doesn't make the sound.
This started happening about a week after I changed my pads. I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or not but I went back and checked to make sure everything was tight and it is.
I know my struts are pretty bad and am thiking that is the source of the noise but does that sound right that applying the brakes would eliminate the noise?

Did you bend the tabs down on the outer pads real tight?

Yes. They eliminate the need for anti-rattle clips. And not to make fun of you guys, but this design has been used on nearly every GM RWD platform from the 60s to the 90s, and yet, people still don't bend them down.

Yes I bent them down. That was my first thought when I got the noise so I actually pulled them back off once to make sure I remembered.
