Stuck lug...tried almost all the methods...

Okay...drivers rear has one lug nut stuck on (the rest came off easy with an impact wrench). The tire was off about five months ago, so I doubt it's rust-related. Here's what I've tried:

1) Impact wrench...no luck just impacts but no movement.
2) PB Blaster and....
3) Hammered the lug (in case it was rusted)
4) breaker bar with almost all my weight (350-ish).

The one thing I didn't try that I've used on rusted rotors is to heat it up...but I really don't want to destroy anything in the process. Oh yeah, and I really don't want to drill this thing off. I'm really confused since this wheel was off five months ago (Feb).

I'm kinda ticked off...all I want to do is replace my wheel cylinders...

If nothing else works, drilling it out isn't that big of a chore.

It is when you only have a 9.6V rechargeable drill

Any other advice?

It must have been rust. I went out after I had cooled off, shot it with more PB Blaster, and leaned on the breaker bar and it broke loose.

Better that than a brace and bit I guess. Glad it worked out anyway.

Next time you install the tire, use a torque wrench set at 80 lbs. or 100 on alloy's. 350ish on a tire iron is a little too much! You can also spray some rust inhibiter on the bolt's to keep them from rusting up.

I had a couple stuck ones too when I got my car. I just used a 3/4th drive gear reduction ratchet and they came right out.

Absolutely...I always torque my lugs. I spoke with my girlfriend's dad (who put the tires on after changing the shoes) and he said he used an impact wrench...between that an the rust...I think that explains it.

Me or the one on the wheel? Yeah, I was slightly worried about the stud snapping and me getting a wrench to the leg. At least if the stud snapped, I would have been able to get it off and get it replaced...without spending hours with my cheap ___ drill.

Thanks for the help guys...

I only weigh 160 and just managed to snap two wheel studs yesterday, not very strong either...course with a 26" breaker bar you don't really have to be...
And on this note...can anyone tell me how to go about replacing the wheel studs? I know I have to take my brakes off(drums) but not sure how to, I've still never worked on brakes...rebuilt an engine, replaced rear springs...but know zilch about working on brakes...

Get a punch, or something similar, and grab a hammer, put the punch on whats left of the stud, and give it a few whacks with the hammer, it should begin to back-out. I suggest replacing all wheel-studs that you can, with the studs that still are full length, just smack them with the hammer and they will come out, just be careful not to damage anything. Installing new ones is as easy as sliding them through the hole, and tightening them down and they will pull through.

I did them on my disc brake rear, not sure if any of the drum stuff will get in the way of anything.
