high HP/TQ build
Well I am planning on doing a 800 to 1000 rwhp build on my transam and was wondering what kind of strengthening the car will need to handle the power. This summer I will have a custom rollcage welded in along with my subframe connectors. Is there anything else I need to do bodywise to make it handle the power?

I would build a chassie to put the shell on--check out a real pro steer car, if you ever use that power the stock unibody will not hold up, heck I cracked my 68 camaro with 4500 rpm launches with only fram conectors and the car only made 390 hp
just my thoaught

I would have the money in the bank before you start that project.
You're going to have 20+ grand in the motor and everything needed to run it.
Don't try to build a race car paycheck-to-paycheck. It sucks, I'm doing it right now.

hmmm so thats going to cost a lot more than i expected. I figured they could just beef up the existing stuff. Maybe I should go for a lower power engine.

Yeah.....lowe that range a bit. you can still shoot high as all hell, but you just need to realize anything that the car came with is gonna have to go.
I am doing it now with my 91 Camaro. It was a 305 TPI, with a 5 speed. I want 500 HP for a nice street car. So this is my set up
-6 point bars
-subframe coneectors
-Moser 12 bolt
-Temec 6 speed
-All tube, adj. suspenion parts (not needed, but after all the other work, why not...)
-MOTOR... 383 strtoker, fully forged and carbed.
Just the powertrain is costing me...
rear..........2200
tranny......2395
motor.......6500....(sick deal I found)
clutch.........400
driveshaft..350
And then there are tires/rims and brakes....
I am doing this all on a budget too, trying to do it right, but as inexpensive as possible. Just keep that in mind.
Hope this helps it in perspective. Can't wait to see your set up.

That's an insane amount of power to get at the ground, chances are you have no idea how much power that really is or just have big dreams. Either way all said and done with the complete car operating with that much power expect a MINIMUM investment of $60K for everything, realistically closer to $75/80K if you build it so it can use that much power and have it be safe/tech compliant...You can always just buy insane amounts of nitrous along with another power adder to get there quicker, but it's going to be a dangerous ride if car can't stick it 100%...which will require a race chasis set-up, there is'nt anyway a rall cage in a stock body is going to be up to task in anyways shape of form.

Ok so A roll cage and SFC is good to what amount of power? I plan on getting a new rearend, driveshaft and all the other stuff. Should I be shooting for more like 600 to 700?

yeah. 700 is def pushing it. Is this gonna ba a tubbed car? Or a street set up. 700 is gonna be hard to put down on the pavment. Even 600 is. If you car talking about rwhp. I am gonna have 500 flywheel, so that is like 425 rwhp. If you want 700 rwhp then you are gonna need some place close to 800 flywheel HP. That is not the easiest thing to do on pump gas and streetable.
You gonna have a power adder?
That makes it a lot more possible.
Well either way, you must be ready to spend a ton, so i am sure you can just tell speedomotive or someone to make you some crazy twin turbo set up or something.

600 is a very realistic goal, actually, thats my goal at the flywheel, on motor, but anything over 500 id be happy with. my combo:
edelbrock victor efi
afr 210s
custom grind solid roller
638 block, bored, splayed, everything
lunati 3.75 crank
manley h beams
wiseco pistons
'730 ecm
tko-600
9" with a variety of brands
spohn coilovers, torque arm, lcas, phb
pro fab k member and a arms
koni yellows
stock swaybars
wilwoods on all corners
custom sfc
8 point bar
the more i think about, the more i think its a waste of money, could put a down payment on a nice *** house, but when i started saving about 3 years ago, its what i wanted to do. i know i will be over 20k into this car, but i dont like thinking about it. also, add up all you want to spend, then add roughly 30%, and you will get a more realistic figure, cause theres always little things that add up to alot
edit: forgot a couple important things

That is definietly true. about it costing more than you thought.
As for being realistic goal of 600 at the flywheel, that is of course realistic with a F.I. big block. I guess what I was really comenting on was weather or not the roll bar and SFC will do. I guess it depends on how many points and how they get welded in. It should be fine.
My set up is not too different than yours Kag. I just went with the same kinda stuff but on the cheaper side. I am 21 now and will finish this one by fall. i hope to make a big block vertion after I am done with my mech. eng. school. Hope to see a million pictures of yours, hehe.

Yes a lot of money will be spent and yes on the turbo. I will have the subframes connectors and custom rollcage welded in this summer. The goal for this car is for me to have an endless supply of power and since I dont go faster than I can handle this car will be fun for quite some time.

Those brakes look really nice too. i have that same k-member. Hope you update all the time. I will check your site every now and then. Hope it all works out man.
any idea when it might be done? or close?

Damn Kyle, I didn't realise you were going that crazy. I guess that explains the 9" then.
Good luck.

Reading on another board....here ya go, all done so you can save the time and headache to jump straight into a huge powered ride, just dont kill yourself, personally think from being here doing that, you should work your way up to power of this kind. Call me stupid and be macho thinking "you can handle it", but being realistic and seeing these green horns jump into crazy cars is a real eye opener when things get hairey....lotta money to pizz away if you dont have some time under your belt.

. We had a 12 car field on Sunday at the last Autobahn CC event if I remember right.Anyway, if you actually want to make money, don't go post on CTR or anything that people can track back to here. People will find it somehow and then they'll want spots for how fast they think your combo will run, no matter what it actually does.
Probably want to edit that post too. My two cents.
