get a spring compressor and put it inside the spring. make sure it sticks out of the hole in the a arm, and re assemble. it also helps to have the car higher off the ground to allow the a arm to swing down as far as necessary.

Last time I helped my friend do his front suspension we were able to do it without a spring compressor. Kind of supprised me too because I always thought you had to use one with the taller springs (14-12" tall uncompressed). But my friends dad knew the trick: Set the spring up into the k-member and attach a safety chain just in case, looping through the second or third from the top coil through the hole in the k-member (engine side). Then place the a-arm under the spring and angle it so you can start threading the balljoint nut through the spindle. Once you have that started tighten it up, but not all the way. Then place the floorjack under the a-arm and jack it up to compress the spring. If its seated properly it should stay put but the safety chain will be the backup just in case. Once the a-arm tabs get close to the k-member you can use a screwdriver to align them and get the bolts through. If you're jacking the a-arm up and the body lifts off the jackstands you need to place the jack closer to the inside of the a-arm. Just remember that this is one example of how I've done it, I'm not saying this is the best or only way to do it, and I'm no suspension expert or anything, just some guy. Hope it helps.

I don’t know how many times I’ve posted this, but you’re doing it from the wrong side.

Let the arm pivot on the ball joint and put the spring in from the pivot bolt side and jack that side up, it’s much easier that way.

Isn't that what I just said? Or am I going crazy?
