Stupid wheel locks

Ok guys, I have the 1990 RS wheels or the same thing as the earlier Z28 wheels. I have the special lugnut on each wheel that needs a key. I have tried the key from a 91 Firebird, 87 IROC, and a 91-92 RS. None of those fit. I have been told they are aftermarket lugs, but I dont think because they have the threads for the plastic nut covers, and they are identical to the wheels on these other cars, its just the nut doesnt fit any of then right. I would break them off with that kit, but I dont have acess to any air tools really.

Any help on what to do with this or any info on if these locks are unique would help me greatly. Thanks for any help guys.

Go to a muffler shop and have them weld a Decent sized bolt to the lug nuts and use that to take em off

Or you can use a chisel and a hammer

Keys changed per lock set. Since any theif would go nab one key and get all wheels from that year set on as many cars as he could if they were all the same

You can 'try' to hammer a socket on but lug nuts are tempered and hardened, it'll take some patience and cursing

SAMs stripped one of my locks out with an airgun by not puting the key all the way on it, and I got a muffler shop to weld a bolt to the tip and took it off like that.

Pocket is rtight, getting a bolt welded on is the easiet way.
Usually you just brake the socket when you try that other idea.
Chisel and a hammer works but you have to know how to do it.
I could try to explain if someone needs me to.

happened to my wrangler with wheel locks,,,,,someone actually stole the lug key when they went through it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,went to pep boys,,,bought a socket they had for removing those wheel locks,,,,,,the socket slipped so i just cut a few small lines in the lug/lock,,,,put the special socket on ,,,turned off with a ratchet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,socket was less than 10 bucks,,,,,,again this was for aftermarket wheel locks,,,,but should work

You pay $500 for a car with minimal problems and runs like a champ and see if you are thinking about wheel locks bud.

Well if your $500 car runs like a champ but you still can't take the wheels off, Bud you are still one dumb buyer. But now you are thinking about it and can't figure it out

I take these locks off once a month on different cars that dont have the key, it is fairly simple. Take an impact socket that slides on over it well and take the one the next size smaller. Hammer that one on there, no cursing needed it has worked every single time for me. I only use impact sockets though, im not sure if a regular one would work. Oh and you can still reuse the socket just by hammering out the old lock. Try it ill bet it works.
Good Luck,
Dennis

Did you check to make sure it's not with the spare tire and lug wrench?
An air chisel seems to work the best.

it's not that you don't have a point... you do. but if i was going to buy a car for x ammount of money, the absence of a wheel lock would not even be a factor. if somthing that small and insignificant could affect my negotiated price i am paying too much allready.

a regular sockrt would probably break. use an impact as segested. or weald a bolt on there. both will result in the destruction of the lock-lugs. but since you have no key that does not matter.

a buddy of mine just recently purchased a 2000 toyota celica. it had some blinging chrome wheels. he takes it to lesschwab tire center to get the tires rotated and have the breaks checked and ALL 5 LUGS on every wheel had lock-lugs. and of course... no key.

yeah mine came with wheel locks on it and i didnt even think about it when i bought the car and i paid 5,000$ you just dont think of that sort of thing i was more concerned about everything else then i was about a wheel lock, usualy you look at it and dont even knowtice it. doesnt matter because with all the cars ive purchased ive become a master at pulling them things off, on an old truck i grinded to flat spots on the nut to get a wrench on it, wont work on any wheels on a third gen though, ive also heated one up and used a vice grips, came off very easily that way, still probably cant do that with these wheels though.on my car i just welded a nut on it. easiest way yet, no smashed knuckles. if you dont have a welder just buy some beer and find some one that does!
