I've searched everywhere for a new pitman arm and can't find one. Ebay, spohn, PST, autozone, etc, etc and I can't seem to located one? Anyone have any suggestions or part #'s, prices, etc??

first off...why do you need one?

gm parts numbers look like

7837632 - (83-92)
7837631 - (82)

www.gmpartsdirect.com ....if you absolutley need it. There is a reason its not a stocked item though. Its a non wear item, so the only reason to replace it is if its bent or broken.

It's nothing but a dumb chunk of metal with 2 holes in it. Nothing to wear, nothing to break, nothing to fail.

What's wrong with your car? What does it do, that you're trying to fix by replacing that?

 

Hey guys, thanks for making me feel like a jackass... I know my way around a car but I guess this one just didn't seem to dawn on me. The problem I'm having is "play" or looseness between the pitman arm and the center link and ever since completely redoing my frontend suspension along with LS1 brakes it just doesn't "feel right". I knew that the stock 185k mile steering system was probably to blame and finally narrowed it down to looseness between the pitman/center link. I was going to do a idler arm, inner/outer tie rods, solid spohn tie rod connectors, and a new center link so while I was at it I thought I'd replace the pitman arm. I couldn't remember (and didn't look closely enough) to see if the play was in the pitman arm or center link but was definately at that joint. Thanks for the help guys, no thanks for trying to make yet another person on here feel like a jackass for asking a question....

Seriously, that joint where the Pitman arm hooks to the center link, is actually part of the center link. The CL has 2 joints on it; one for the idler arm, and one for the Pitman arm. So that should take care of it.

 

No problem guys, just giving you ****. Honestly it was my mistake.... I should've known that if I was thinking straight... I just had it in my head to replace everything up front and be done with it. I'm to the point with this car that's its almost new... just needs paint. Now I gotta go order my inner tie rods, idler arm, center link, and solid tie rod adjusters! Can't wait to see how it drives!

 

If you really need one because the center link hole is worn out, take a puller to the auto wrecker and yank one off another third gen. As mentioned above, they're not normally a wear item.

 

Yeah, hopefully the worn centerlink hasn't worn out the hole in the pitman arm.

I was inspecting a truck today. The draglink end was loose in the steering arm. It wobbled back and worth enough that it looked like the hole was worn out in the steering arm. Took out the cotter pin, tightened the nut and put the cotter pin back in. Good as new and no movement.

 

yeah those joints are tapered.so they can be tightened if needed.

 

Did you change your ball joints? If not, there prolly loose too.

 

Yes, balljoints and a-arm bushing are already new. I've already figured out the problem as stated above... there is looseness between the pitman arm and center link. All my new stuff will be here this week!
