Double thump while turning

Test drove a 92 RS L03 today. Was in a parking lot, turned left at low speed into a parking spot and heard/felt two thumps in the steering collumn while cranking the wheel to the left. All the guy said was "Its the power steering". Car seemed to steer fine, wheel was easy to turn, the handling seemed tight. I've never heard that noise in any other car i've driven and it threw up a caution flag. I did not notice it while turning corners out on the street, but that doesnt mean it didnt happen. Thoughts on this?
