Any tech articles on setting Pinion angle?

Or theories on how it changes the performance of the car? More importantly, how is effects the rear end? I'm having problems with breaking my 9" and I think it is due to my pinion angle. I don't know what it's set at right now. I have pulled the center sec. and will check the contact patch and backlash. If all checks out, then I'll pull it apart. Any suggestions?

I'm running a 4.11 gear w/ a spool that I bought complete from moser. It's in a manual car w/ a raceweight of 3350 and is launched off the 2 step above 5500rpm.

What are you breaking? The only thing a bad pinion angle will hurt is the u-joint.

Nothing wrong with that explanation.

As for an example, my ladder bar suspension is set in the zero to -1 range. Since everything is solid, there's no diff rotation. Just up and down movement on the springs.

That what I was thinking. My car obviously isn't the fasting thing out there (see sig), but I only made 4 passes w/ the new moser center section and now it's making a horrible noise. I'm not sure if I cracked the solid spacer or what. There should be no reason why a 360rwhp car can hurt a rear that's built for (what moser claims) 2000hp. The center is out, and I'll be measure and inspecting all tonight. Will post up tomorrow what I find.

PS - Thanks for the link.

Freebird, there has been alot of issues with Moser lately. I've had friends that had to reset their rear up, after a qualified Moser assembly shop could not get it right a second time.

I was refering to the 12 bolt. I see in your post, that, you are refering to the 9". I suppose it could still happen with either Moser rear, though.

Backlash was .010" the wear patter was bias towards the toe. I'll be adding a shim to the pinion tonight to move it out closer to the heel and checking it again. Thanks for the help guys.
