QA1 = GARBAGE

These are rear shocks I bought for my 86 GP, 12 way adjustable. Dont make the same mistake I did and spend your money on junk. Less than 2 years and 3000 miles (mostly highway), absolutely no damage whatsoever, right rear leaking like there's no tomorrow. Pathetic. I heard it suggested that there may have been damage like a nick to the shaft or something along those lines. Not hardly. I could have spent $20 instead of $280 and had something that would be in the car for years and miles to come. And they think I should be happy getting them rebuilt... what, to get another 3000 miles? I think not.
QA1's response "Over a year old, oh well warranty expired."

Avoid these like the plague

HAL shocks and CARRERA are also QA1 companies

The only shocks that I have ever used are stock AC-Delco and Konis.
I have had very good luck with the Konis, and love them.
Every time I ever bought AC-Delco, I always seem to get one that leaks.
I never tried the middle of the line shocks.
Thanks for the heads up.

i have the on my 1928 dodge street rod and have never had to rebuild them and a friend has a 41 ****** drag car with a 540 bbc and rebuilds them in between seasons and has never had any problems with them the kits to rebuild them is cheaper than even parts house shocks

They gave us a contact to rebuild them at $50 each plus shipping.
The adjustable part is a good idea but I put my bilstings back on.

Here is the link to the GP
Grand Prix

The sound may or may not work, it is that car on my street with the neighbors cheering us on.

the car looks and sounds great. i like all the gm cars with that type of body. my friend has a monte that year model just sitting in the weeds and wont sell it. so i am going with my 91 camaro. anyways back on topic i have just thought about the shocks do you have just the shocks or coil-overs dont know if they differ. i have only used the coilovers not the shocks.

Thanks fo rthe compliments. A lot of time and energy went into it.
Ive had the car for a while and sometimes get itchy for something different (89 TA conv) but then go to some event like a few weeks ago went on the Car Craft anti tour and was amazed at the guys checking out the car and the compliments I got, so that peaks my interest in the GP again.

The QA1's were just adjustable shocks.

Too bad they werent built better, so its back to the Bilsteins.

And to think I was considering a set of QA1's for the front.

I was thinking that was the FWD one and you had converted it to RWD or did some crazy FWD setup. My bad

Still a nice looking car!!

that's funny, I've got several street cars with over 3 years of street/strip use and not a single problem with the qa1's. You have one that leaks that could, and most likely has nothing to do with the manufacturer, and they're junk.

With the exception of boxed LCR's the rear suspension on this SBC vehicle is factory stock.
My son, who is a registered engineer and whose favorite class was failure analysis and has automotive repair experience, inspected the shock and found no exterior damage or scoring.
We did not chose QA1's because they are pretty, we researched the product on the net. Did we get the one of 10K that has a manufacturing flaw, maybe, but QA1's response was TFB "over a year old, warranty expired, here is the name of a company that rebuilds them".
Less than 2 years and 3000 miles on a $140 shock and that attitude from the mfg'r tells me that they don't care.
Could be that between the time "Dialed in" bought his and I bought mine the company changed ownership and/or the shocks are mfg'd, like everything else, in China now.
I do know that the Bilstiens that have about 6K miles on them are back on and I will never purchase another QA1 product due to their attitude.
The QA1 was leaking so bad that we dicovered it due to a 3" dia puddle on the garage floor at the rear wheel. The other rear QA1 appears to be ok.

Sorry to hear about your luck, sounds like you got a defective piece or a piece of dirt tore the seal.
