bad wheel bearing??

I have an 89 rs v8--160,000 miles that is making a noise from the driver front wheel that sounds like metal to metal grinding when I brake----pads and rotors look good I can also feel sometihing loose on that side that seems to be getting worse as the grinding gets louder. Could it be a bearing? Any ideas?

Thanks

You might be right about the wheel bearing, but it could also be the brake caliper piston has stuck causing the inside brake pad to drag. This would cause it to wear down alot faster than the outer pad and give you the illusion of good brakes. You'll find out soon enough, when to start taking things apart.
Hope your not still driving the thing! Goo luck!

Have you taken anything apart and looked at it?

don't be so shure its not the bearings mine was doing that yesterday and the outer bearing was flat shot and the inner was close. i started hearing a scraping noise so i put the car on jacks to see what it was, i didn't see any thing obvious so i started taking the hub off that wheel and shure enough. total cost was $40 to fix it. would have been more but i am gonna switch to bigger brakes i a couple of months and i couldn't justify putting premium parts in the car when i have had the car for 2 years and i have only put 3,000 miles on it.

I took that outer bearing out this weekend and it was fine---so I adjusted it and haven't noticed the scraping noise but something is still very loose. I checked the control arm bushings, the balljoints, and just replaced the strut mounts. must be the inner bearing---but when I adjusted everything it was nice and tight.

I even checked the tranny mount and made sure it was tight

I don't get it
