Ronal R15 Wheels-Hit Tie Rod
Finally got the Ronals on the car and to my horror the front inside of the front wheels are hitting the outer tie rod end, even with the adapter installed. Called Ronal today about it and they are researching the problem.
Anybody with these wheels ever have this problem? Sure need some help on this one from you guys with these wheels
Also, got to figure out a way to keep the brake hose from rubbing the front tire.
I do like the wheels, they look awesome on the car.
Thanks,
Aaron

wow.. could they possibly be different front/rear offsets? there are quite a few cars out there running these wheels without problems, including the handfull of SLP firehawks..

Offset
Yeah, that thought had crossed my mind also on the offset issue. Will measure tomorrow morning and find out for sure. Like you said, there are a lot of cars with these and I didn't think I would have any problems like this.
Thanks for the Reply!

My '91 Z had these wheels on it when i bought it and the former owner told me he had just replaced the tie rod ends and they must be clearanced with a bench grinder to clear the wheels.I would post a pick but my camera was recently drop kicked so a replacement is in the works. It doesn't look as though it takes much grinding so it won't hurt the strength of the tie rod.

I would first make sure that they didn't send you four rear wheels. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with those rims.

Will talk with Ronal Tuesday some more about specific front and rear offset measurements. I was understanding today that they are the same offset for the front (fronts use adapters only) and rears.
Thought about grinding the tie rod end also, but it would still be a tight clearance. Plus they are new tie rods and I'd be a little upset at ruining one. Not sure that will help much.
Thanks for the ideas, will let you know what I come up with.

Finally finished sorting through the 'Search' topics and have decided to clearance the edge of the tie rod with the bench grinder. Will report tomorrow how it went. Can't think of anything else right now to fix the problem.

probably shouldn't be much material needed to be ground down either, but brake hose rubbing is an issue that should be taken care of ASAP, definately not safe to drive around like that.

Apparently, it seems some others have had this problem with the tie rods after doing some more searching. With out the adapters installed, I couldn't even bolt on the wheel as the tie rod was pushing it so far away from the hub and spindle assembly. I'm going to grind down the tie rod end today and see how it works.
Already fixed the brake line issue with the help of the hardware store.
Will update soon, thanks for the ideas once again.

Problem solved! Today I pulled off the tie rods and used the bench grinder on them. After carefully marking where they hit, I spent about 5 minutes at the bench grinder and have plenty of clearance now.
Ronal never called me back. Thanks for all of the insight some of you provided.
A trip to the hardware store and $3 in parts solved the brake line issue with the tire. Now all I need is to get the car aligned and plates/insurance and the project will be on the road for the first time in 7 years!

Mine rubbed the tie rods even with the spacers. I grinded the tie rods a bit, but still was close. Solved the problem by using 1LE brakes and tossing those loose fitting spacers.

Drove the car for the first time in 7 years today and it was awesome. Take it in for an alignment friday morning and then it has to sit all weekend as I'll be out of town. Can't wait to drive it some more. When I get my digital camera back I'll post some pics.

Re: Ronal R15 Wheels-Hit Tie Rod
Wow, my old 2006 thread was brought back from the dead!
I would pull the wheels off and use an angle grinder on the outer tie rod. Mark where tie rod hits wheel and remove a little material on the tie rod. It didn't take much grinding to clear the inside of the wheel.
The 86 I sold.

And on my current 88 GTA:

sexy!! I brought my formula to get an alignment and have the mechanic look at why the wheel was hitting the tie rod.. come to find out I needed new inner and outer tie rods along with sway bar links and the icing on the cake is at one point the car was in a accident therefore I need new spindles after all said and done the car should be tight and lined up right with the ronal wheels..
