UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

Pics coming soon..

The UMI and Alston SFC combo-

I have heard that some say it makes the car feel stiff. Yes it does, but it also allows the car's suspension components (i.e. shocks and springs) to fully work to their potential.

The ride feels "Cadillac" like. Yet you still have greater authority in the turns... THe car does turn with more confidence, it seems to take less effort.

Keep in mind that I had Koni's installed in the back and front along with moog 5665's in the rear.. (still need to get to the fronts, but frankly, im no hurry, the car is so much better now I just want to enjoy it) and this car rides so much different. Much different than with the Koni's alone.

I believe that the SFC's have made the Koni's do what they are supposed to do. Give a great ride and handle well. The SFC's exponentially increase ride quality and handling. Period.

Jeff said they had issues with fitting the Alstons on the passenger side, near the cat. Common install issue. But they made it work. It looks naturally attached to the vehicle. Like its always been there.

VERY happy with the results.

Chuck

I've got Spohn SFC's installed and a set of Alston's in the trunk awaiting install... T top car, should be good with Bilstiens and other aftermarket upgrades

I agree. These SFC's will only accentuate the qualities of the Bilsteins... You will be impressed!

I am now a firm believer that all 3rd gens need this. First thing. Wish I did this when I bought the car.

Do you mean where the Alstons attach to the frame?

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

yea, you can see its not all the way up on the frame, I had to use a 2nd jack to get mine in nice when doing them. you can see its not tight to it in the pic.

on top of they were already under there to weld in the others, why not the alstons too? The others welded in already bumped you up into the higher race classes, weld those two while your at it bro, here's a 12pack.. is what id say. more so since they got a lift, so its easy.

they are both bolt and weld in design......

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

I thought that those Alstons should have been welded....they do look about as low as the exhaust pipe, so getting them up tighter would be good

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

from the pic I posted of yours, I really question that rear bolt and if its even through the side of the frame section or partialy sliced through the bottom. like the alstons, that part of the frame angles up.

Instead of bolting the alstons on, jack them up tight against the frame and weld the holes in with plug welds like this

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

Chuck84TA,
Nice job with the selection of parts and I really like the UMI SFC.
that's what I will be using. You're definitely doing all the right things with the right parts and it looks great. As far as the Alstons being refitted properly and welded well that's just a small snag that can be fixed in about 5 minutes. Over all you're doing a great job.

Side note = Man I hate those scissor lifts. I took my car to a reputable shop to have some work done and I come back to see that they were clueless as to where to put the front pads. Crushed the sides of the car even severely cracking a side ground effect.(brand new custom paint). Even the pad in the photo above on the SFC makes me cringe .Way to close for comfort .

It's not a scissor lift, it's a 2 post and it's not a problem lifting these cars. The pads are adjustable, there's plenty of clearance.

Sure beats rolling around on a creeper on the floor.

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

When it comes to welding the Alstons, do I need to pull the carpet out so as to not have burn marks/holes?

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

OK, 2 Post. Thanks for the correction .Terminology is important with me.I did a little looking and found that the drive on lift is called a 4 post. Correct ?
I should have been more specific .Its not the 2 post that I have problems with, its trusting a mechanic to know where the lift spots are with a unibody such as mine. My trust issues with mechanics was bad enough so when they don't know you have to get down on the ground preferably with a flashlight and find the exact spots on the unibody for the pads to be placed it pissed me off. Then they acted like its no big deal.
Sorry Chuck84TA

Re: UMI and Alstons installed at Schwartz Performance

They do take more time to set up than a 4 post, that's correct. A mechanic works on the clock and you are right, most just kick the legs under the car and start lifting. A lot of cars have crushed underbodies from this
