Tie rod to wheel clearance & lowering question
First post here as a new member. I've been lurking in the background for quite a while reading up on everything.
I'm planning on tires, wheels & suspension mods. The car is a '91 Formula WS6.... my daily driver.
I'm fitting new wheels 17x9 with 275's & trying to keep them as far under the car as possible to prevent tire interference. My question is.... what is the minimum tie rod to wheel clearance that anyone has run. I'm just under 3/16" & it does not hit during aggressive cornering. To me this is marginal as a bent wheel could cause lockup. Anyone run less without issue or have any similar problems?
My second question is streetable spring rates. I'm not a fan of progressive springs as I like a consistant feel. I hate to buy various springs & start cutting only to be dissatisfied, or to spend $1000 on weight jacks & springs. I'd like to keep it simple & trouble free as possible. I've read a few hundred posts & most point to the pro-kit. I'd try them if it had linear rear springs. I'm currently at 27" rear & 27-3/4" front and I'm assuming the stock rear springs have sagged even with only 38K miles. Not sure how low to go or how stiff, but getting the front down to the rear height or slightly lower would seem ok without dragging everywhere. I do not consider the WS6 spring at all harsh, but the pro-kit is only marginally stiffer considering the reduced ground clearance. I do not intend to road race, but do want to have a nice balanced feel, unlike the understeer it has now. Any good linear springs out there that are slightly stiffer than the Pro-kit?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Lonnie

I think your clearence is fine.
If you are not racing, I would leve the springs alone.
If you want to cure the push, adjust air preasure 1st.
Start at 36 front and 28 rear. That should lossen it up. If not go 38 / 26.
Lowering the rear tire pressure will increase the slip angle and loosen the car.
If you like the loose feel, put on a smaller front bar and readjust air pressure.

Thanks for the pressure info. It helped a little. I was at 35/30. Not sure the 38/26 will be good for tire life in everyday driving though.
It still feels too soft in the rear for my liking. During cornering, you can feel it push & I either have to lift off the throttle to scrub speed so it turns or get on it hard to slide the rear out. I would like to get it to the point that it feels neutral at constant speed. Having a 200hp car with an automatic, I'm not confident that I will always have the power to slide it through a turn.
If I went with someting around 850# front, what would be a good rear spring rate for use with the stock WS6 bars?
I have 285/40-17 G-forces rear & 275 front. I was planning on 275's on all 4 but I had a new set of tires for my Camaro that I never used.

It should push with that tire combo.
Go with less sway bar up front. Or more in rear. before you change the springs.
