What I've been finding is that the 'books' list cars such as the Z28 and TransAm as using the larger outer bearing. Which is only true if the car is equip'd with the optional 1LE brakes. Has nothing to do with the model of the vehicle. But, that's what the books list.

YES, it does matter. 1LE or not, base models have a smaller outer bearing than TA/Z28's. - I found this out when I did my 13" brakes. I had a set of take off rotors, so I turned them down on a buddies lathe, so that I had a hub. Decide to get all new bearings and found that new nor my old ones wold fit, as the berlinetta I had snagged the rotors off of had smaller outer bearings. -

The difference is, I know what the right part numbers are; but their books are fornicated.
The only ones of these cars that have different front wheel bearings, are the 1LE cars. Those are the only ones with different rotors. There are only a handful of them in the world to begin with, and the vast majority of them (90-95% I would guess) are Camaros, not Firebirds; so the odds of having any Firebird variant with that option, are just about subatomically small. Since the stock rotors on ALL non-1LE ones of these cars, Z28 & T/A or not, are about 10½", I don't think that whatever wheel bearings fit some 13" rotors off of some other kind of car that somebody happened to be putting on one, have very much to do with what wheel bearings our cars came equipped with. I could be wrong about that of course, but I'm not.
As far as "why" they did that to their books, well, I can only guess. I'm sofakingdom that I can't begin to dissect their inner motives. It's beyond me to decipher why humans do what they do.

- my 13" brake conersion consists of stock 10.5 rotors with the brake surface machined off to leave me with a hub for my 13" rotors to slide onto. My factory 10.5 rotors on my GTA have larger outer bearings than the rotors I pulled off the berlinetta and used on for hubs. - The wagner cataloge lists 3 different rotors. Stock, Z28/TA, and 1LE. Side by side, the stock and Z/TA look identical, but the outer race/bearing is smaller.
