Will need some tires soon for my RS, and I have been scanning tirerack and looking at the reviews. Seems to be tons of good choices in my price range, and the reviews are rarely F-Body specific so I figured you guys could help me out better. Please note that I dont want to cheap out on tires by any means, but I know I dont need a super high performance tire. However money is still a concern. These will see 100+ dry temperatures in the summer and light - moderate rain in the winter. They will probably never see snow or freezing temps, maybe once or twice if I decide to take a trip to the mountains in the winter.

Fulda extremo's. - Best bang for the buck. I went 1.87 60ft's on them stock, Dans87GTA was cutting 1.94's(less tail weight than my stereo'ed vert). - We'll all be soon to see what his car does with lca's, relocates, and a BMR tq arm.

 

Where can I find those? Dont see them on Tirerack. I have been checking out these lately - opinions?

Kumho ECSTA ASX

 

id say those are def. good tires for the money. i was going to recommend the kumho ecsta series...my buddy just got them and the only problem he has with them is he lives on a gravel road and rocks will get stuck in the two big bands cut out for repelling water and when he gets back on the road it will throw the rocks out...

 

For inexpesnive decent daily driven tires, I'd go with the Kumho 711.
I had the Fulda Extremos as well and they are better dry traction wise (didn't drive them in the rain) than the 711's but don't last as long since they are a softer tire.
711's are like $60 or so each in the size you want.

 

Kumho Ecsta AST"s stiffer sidewalls than the 711/712 series.

they hook good and stick well in curves and are great in rain as well.

they're probably under $95 on tire-rack(watch out for shipping), mine were $102 a pop installed at america's tire. great if you want an inexpensive cornering tire, havent done any drag racing but the sidewalls are firm and grip is great. when you take a high speed turn and where a normal tire starts feeling sloppy you can feel these bite the road. great cheap W-rated tire. havent tried them in the rain(hasnt come close to raining this summer, lol), but these shouldnt see much water duty. it is a summer tire though, so no snow/ice.

from the reviews i saw(and i agree to the extent of my knowledge), you cant get a better UHP summer tire without spending $25-50 more each(and many of the more expensive ones are worse).

 

I had the ECTSA 711's on the front and some others on the rear and always noticed the car seemed a little loose. When I swapped rims I put the 711's on the rear and now it sticks like glue in the curves.

And besides $50 a piece on tirerack!

 

I have the Cooper ZPT's. They handle great in the rain and have a good tread wear rating. There are speed rated to 137 I belive

 

Anybody tried those FUSION tires I think they are called, pretty cheap. Don't know if they are good or not ?

 

I just had 245/50/16 Kuhmo Ecstas put on the back of my car. they seem to get good traction. I haven't had it to the track, but I broke the ring and pinion in my car with them ( and those usually don't break unless you have slicks). Broke it in 3rd gear, for the record.

 

I hated my Kumho's with a passion. Rear location 255/50/16's. They were 711 or 712's, can't remember now. Car slid around corners unless they were extremely warm, never did hook better than a 2.10 60ft at the track(from a previous 1.87). This was while I was still TPI/auto/stock suspension. I ran them a little while with the stick, the 355, and all the suspension done - they never even attempted to hook until mid-way through 3rd. They spun soo bad they wouldn't even black mark, just clean the pavement and leave two almost white lines. Mid way through 3rd it'd feel like someone kicked you in the azz.

IMO - they ain't worth $20.

 

i would just stay away from an h-rated tire, sidewall flex is a bitch for the corners.

 

My 82 is not a daily driver, and I plan to upgrade to bigger rims in the next year or so, but I picked up the Kumho ECSTA 711's earlier this year from Tire Rack. I've been pleasantly surprised with these tires, and have had no problems what so ever.

 

if interested, I have a brand new set of Cooper Zeon ZPT that have never been mounted. I bought them this past winter, but now I am wanting to go with aftermarket 17' wheels, but i need to get rid of these first. They are directional tires. Let me know if interested.

 

i know shagwell mentioned the fulda's which are badass but the reason why you cant find them on tire rack is because they dont make them anymore which sucks becuase they work really good but whenever those wear out on my car im going to go for yokohama es100 from what i have seen they work really good i dont know what they cost most likely more than a 100 bucks but i have been doing tires from about 4 years and trust me when i tell you this you get ehat oyu pay for. if you want tires that perform then spend the money im not saying go out and spend 1000 dollars but if you spend 600 bucks for 4 tires you have a good set of tires about 150 or less. but i agree with shagwell you couldnt give me kumho's i have never seen them hook not even with a honda and we know they dont make power. hope that helps Thanks Daniel

 

I am pleased with the ZPTs. The car handles A LOT better than with the crappy goodyear RSAs that came on the car when I bought it. They are in my opinion a very good daily driver due to the tread wear rating and handling. It is kind of trade off for performance and wear. But I think these are excellent in my opinion for a daily driver. I drive 50 hard miles a day and have no complaints from these tires. I bought the set off of a dealer on ebay for $315 to the door. I believe the wear rating is 380. I also drove the car all winter in Indiana. That's not to say it wasn't a challenge but there aren't any tires short of snow tires that wouldn't be a challenge on a RWD.

Yeah i have a set of those fuldas 245/50/16 on my s10 and really like them. Wanted to get a set for my IROC but found out they stopped carrying them at the local tire place.

 

was that local tire place tire kingdom i was told by that company they are the only ones that carry that tire the full name is "Carat Fulda Extremo"

 

I just got a set of the Kumho 711's and for the price as a daily driver, you can't beat the deal. I paid $276 shipped with road hazzard and went to a shop that put them on for $60.

2 complaints since I got them:

1) Is they are a skinny 245/50r16. My old Road Hugger GTD's were awesomely wide.

2) They don't handle that great. Before my car was like how a Trans Am should handle, now with these it kind of wallows a bit. H-rated not great for handling.

Would I get them again? Sure if all I cared about was price and tread wear. But really, I should've gotten some Fulda Extremo's. My brother has them and they rock.

 

I've tried a few cheap 245/50/16 tires out there in this category, my favorite under $100 is the Fuzion ZRi's. I had a pretty bad first impression of them because of the unknown brand name, but when I found out they were made by Bridgestone things started to look better. Turns out they have alot of good features for the price, around $85 a tire right now. Its true that you get what you pay for, not gonna try compare these to good tires. But for what they are and what they cost, they work great in my opinion.

 

Yeah it was tire kingdom...i liked the futura Zs that pepboys used to carry too. They are a really wide 245/255...

 

i have never really heard anything about those tires. not to many people knew about the extremos i tried to spread the word hoping they would get real big i dont know why they quit making them and i work for Tire Kingdom beats me? Later Daniel
