SFC's or Cage?
Ok guys need your opinion. Im building a 85 Iroc with a 454 built mildly. Intake, Cam, P&P heads, Headers, Dual Exhuast. Which should i go with? Looking at the Jegster Bolt in SFCs(I would bolt and weld them) or a Jegster 8 point cage. My worry is that my exhuast wont cleard the SFCs cuz i dont know if im going to have it exit out the side or dump before the axel. So what are your opinions guys?
Thanks
Jeremy

Re: SFC's or Cage?
i would put in both. there's nothing wrong with overkill when it comes to keeping the car striaght, especially if you plan to launch hard at all. right now, i've just got the bolt in sfc's but i welded them in, then i added some extra 1 5/8" .125" wall tubing running from the sfc's to the inner subframe where the tranny mounts are. here's a couple of pics to give you an idea. i'm running a sbc with duals, but have every intention of putting a bbc in one day with the hooker swap headers. it'll take some ingenuity to make it work, but should be no problem. if you do decide to go with both, make sure you tie that roll bar in to the sfc's somehow. it'll just make things that much better!

mw66 What SFC's are you running? Those look like they would be able to clear my exhaust plans.
Thanks

What BBC headers are you going to use. If you use Hooker 2226's they dump close to the outboard edge of the car. I had to trim my CE sfc's back a bit to make room for them.

Re: SFC's or Cage?
Always start with SFC. Don't even waste the money on bolt in ones. Get the weld in versions and weld them in right from the start.
A 6 or 8 point roll bar can always come later. It's not a CAGE unless it has a halo bar and a-pillar bars.
My custom built SFC run more towards the tranny tunnel instead of along the rocker panels. My race mufflers are tucked up under the rockers.

Re: SFC's or Cage?
If your car is going to be driven mostly on the street and it isn't hooking up I wouldn't really worry about a cage. Another thing is you car insurance company. I just bought a modded 91 Z and when I added it to my policy I had to list the mods. I got a call from the comapny ( Geico ) and a letter. They want a full list of the mods done, pics of the 4 sides of the car, interior and trunk. If it has a cage in it or 5 point racing harnesses which it doesn't they are dropping it from my policy. Just a heads up for you if you haven't looked into this already. I personally think a cage and harnesses are a good idea for the safety reasons and that Geico is retarded.

Re: SFC's or Cage?
Many insurance companies won't insure a car if it has a roll bar/cage in it.
I'm like you, I'd feel safer with one in the car but the insurance companies don't see it that way. They see it as a competition vehicle.

Re: SFC's or Cage?
you guys need to change your insurance companies. My ins. company (citizens) didn't even ask about mods. They just wanted the VIN and a payment. When I wrecked however, the adjuster was taking some good notes. (though mine's sotck body/frame) So I asked him, about modded cars. Apparently if you have your vehicle appraised and notify your ins. company of it's value (including all mods.) they'll cover it if it's street legal. I'd read the fine print though.

Re: SFC's or Cage?
When did that start? I've had several thirdgens listed on my GEICO policy over the years and never had them treated any differently than my other cars. Never had to supply pictures or anything. I have to put my 88 back on this summer once it's drivable again.
