Decent performance, reasonable $ tire for 15" rim

I need new tires. I am stuck with a 15 inch rim at this time. Would like a decent performing street tire at and affordable rate. No auto cross, very little drag time, mostly just driving to work.

Currently have Dunlop GT Qualifier 245/60/15. They look great! I love the fat tire look, but the older I get, the more I think larger than necessary tires have some inherent problems. One of these tires is separating and causing a vibration that cannot be ballanced out. Tall sidewalls arent as stable. Radial pull (what ever that is) Etc.

I am looking at a BF Goodrich G Force Sport or a Falken ZE 512. Both of these come in a 225/60/15 or 225/50/15 for $70 to $100.

I am asking you guys for recommendations on these or any other tires and sizes. I am thinking the 225/50's would handle better, but may look silly and not fill up the wheel well. Car is an unlowerd 1986 Firebird.

If anyone has pictures of either of the above on an unlowerd car I would really appreciate those too.

Thanks!

Matt

I work at a sears auto center and i can honestly say DO NOT GET THE FALKENS! Especially if u have a v8 cause you will be buying new tires in about 4 months. Falkens have a pretty high tread wear and dont last long. I would go with the g-forces they are a very good tire and look better on f-bodys. if u want a real muscle car look go for BFG traction t/as or Kelly chargers.

I've had Dunlop GT Qualifiers on a couple of previous vehicles and had good experience with them. The 245/60-15 is a little taller in diameter than the stock 215/65-15(26.1" which the 235/60 is the same depending on maker).
When I bought tires for the 15" wheels on my '83 Z28 I went with Uniroyal Tiger Paws.I had these before and they have improved them.Good ride and handling for the miles I put on them(about 2K)before I went to 16" IROC wheels and Sumitomo HTR-H4.
225/60 and especially 225/50 will be shorter than the stock 215/65.And will look.IMHO,somewhat odd on the car.Try www.tirerack.com to check and compare difference sizes and fitment.
