I have an '84 Z28 305 that just failed inspection due to the center link being garbarge. Is this something I can get in there and change myself. I have experience doing ball joints, tie rod ends, etc...but never this piece. I am hoping to hear some opinions from those of you that have tackled this before.

If you have done tie rods and ball joints center link is going to be very easy.
Center link is easy since it's non adjustable. Remove the left and right inner tie rod ends. Remove from pitman arm, remove from idler arm and it's out.
Now once it's changed, you should still go in for an alignment.

Does the pitman arm connection to the center link need a seperater tool or anything?
As best I can see it is just a nut (and prob cotter pin)??

OK cool, I am doing everything (tie-rods/idler arm etc) so I'll have the separator. Just checking, thanks

I know there is a tool for everything. Removing tie rod ends is very easy with the proper tool. What about putting new ones in. Since it is a compression fit. Is there a tool to compress the tie rod back on to the nuckle or is it just the torque spec that does the job?

I just torqued mine in to spec (do final torques at RIDE HEIGHT) I believe it was 34lbs all round
