Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

I found some wheels i really like but the pattern is 5x120. i know our cars are 5x120.65 or something close will that make a big difference or no. By the way the wheels are probably going to be 8" wide in the front and 9.5" wide in the rear would it be best to get the +20 offset or the +40?

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

Small GM bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4". It's not a metric pattern.

Backspace is the distance from the inner lip of the rim to the mounting surface on the back of the rim.

Offset is the distance from the mounting surface of the rim to the center of the rim. Offset isn't too critical of a measurement but having the incorrect backspace can cause lots of problems. Knowing the offset is more common on front wheel drive rims because the backspace is so high to tuck them under the fenders.

ah good info... well i was lookin at other wheels and some where listed as 120.67mm or 4 3/4" bolt pattern so i thought that the 120mm being slightly smaller wouldnt be much of a deal.

i see what you are saying about the offset... i was mixing it up with the backspace

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

5x120 is a diff bolt pattern and NOT a 3rd gen bolt pattern.

I believe it is for newer GM's.

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

4 3/4 converted to metric is 120.65mm, anything other than this would be an issue

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

IIRC the 120mm is the BMW bolt pattern.

I've heard of people interchanging those, but I suspect that it's alot like the "what's the biggest size tire I can put on my stock pizza cutter wheels" typ of thing. What looks like it'll "fit", and what will actually work right, are 2 different things.

But, to put the size difference into perspective, .67 mm is about .026".

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question real quick

I dono. The shop i work at is right next door to a tire shop so i'll ****** up a set of Bimmer wheels and see how well they fit. I do know of people putting BMW wheels on our cars and have personally seen it too. Well either way i'll keep you updated
