I was putting on my del-a-lum a-arm bushings and remembered that there were two different part numbers for our cars.. One is for 1982-mid 83 cars and the other is for mid 83-92 cars..

I sent them an email:

Noticed you have two part numbers for 82-92 f-body del-a-lum bushings.

Part# 1021 ( fits 1982 to mid 83) $156.20 per car
Part# 1022 (fits mid 1983-92) $156.20 per car
I have already purchased part 1021 from you for my 1982 trans am a while back, but for the sake of compatibility between years, what is the difference between these two part numbers?

I thought this was useful information to share for us 82-83 folks.. I had not heard of the differences before. Anyone else heard of this? I did a fair bit of searching and never saw this mentioned.. I am not sure how much of a difference there is since I know poly bushing are marketed for 82-92 with no differentiation between the years, anyone know how big of a difference?

Ok, so some more information to add to the bank, not sure if it is important, but figured it worth sharing.

 

That's the first I've ever heard that. How do you like the bushings? I haven't heard too much about them.

 

I like their construction alot, I won't be able to tell too much until the snow is gone

Yep it is a weird difference, 82-83 had a few little oddball things different..

 

uh oh. I'm about to do my A-arm bushings this weekend hopefully. I just bought an ES poly kit, '82-92. I sure hope it fits!

 

It should as I have a universal kit on my car now.. for some reason the del-a-lum bushings are specific and the poly or polygraphite kits are not..

I am wondering if we damage our 82-83 arms when putting in something that is not quite the right size.

family commitments are keeping me from taking my bushings out right now..take a pic or two of the old bushings and the new ones and post them would you? Thanks!

 

I'll see if I can. I imagine i'll destroy the old bushings when I remove
them... we'll see!

 

I have run the del alum bushings in my car for over 15 years and for most of those years autocrossed it extensively. recently I removed the A-arms for inspection when I had the engine out for some work. They showed zero wear, with no binding anywhere thru out arm travel. I just gave them some fresh grease re-installed the arms and ALL is good! Worth every penny spent. I would put these in every performance car I own if they were offered for it.

 

To bring this back from the dead and add a little information.

I am also curious as how they can have a universal polyurethane kits for our cars.

According to Global west

Kit 1021 82-83 mid year has a bushing of 1 5/8 inches OD
Kit 1022 83-92 Has a bushing of 1.915 inches OD

Unless they started selling hole shrink with the universal kits someone is going to have a problem.
